I know I've touched on this subject in the past, but it's driving me nuts. So sorry.

I like what I see in the Royal Purple 5w20, so I plan on sticking with it in my Accord.

In a car with a turbo (higher temperatures) I'm looking a using a 10w30 in either Royal Purple or Red Line. Royal Purple I see where it shears, but I've only ever had great luck with it. I never use oil and i believe everytime I've used it it makes my vehicle run smooth. The starting TBN is 12.

I've looked at Red Line for years but have never used it. I think it would stand out in a high temperature application, but I've read where a few people have used more oil than with other oils. I see where people think it cleans better than other oils. Being a group V based oil would it be more likely to hold water? I think if it would, I think using it in a high temperature vehicle would help burn the water off and help the oil to last longer. The starting TBN is 8.

Has anyone ever ran both of these oils in the same vehicle for at least a few runs apiece?

Has anyone ran 10w30 in either oil?

What do you all think?

After a break, I am back running it. Consumption is about 1 qt in 7K miles; I top off with LC so I don't have an exact measurement. Vehicle has over 175K mile.

I have never tried RP for comparison; I didn't find a need to.

My brother uses RP 5w40 in his EVO with good results. He has tons of mods and drives it daily. He does the Autocross thing every once and a while too.

I've been running Redline 5w30 in my 2005 Sequoia starting at 5k, and it now has over 75k on the odometer. Oil change intervals have been between 8-10k and usage is less than 1/2 quart. I haven't seen any evidence that it cleans better than competing products, but I am completely confident that it is a 100% POE/PAO based synthetic. I doubt that there is anything better in a high temperature/turbo application. My experience thus far has been very positive. I will probably continue to use Redline in this vehicle until it dies. Based on my experience with my Camry and my wife's Avalon, that may be a very long time.

I have yet to see any Redline shear out of weight due to heat or contamination.

Redline is what you would want in a high temp turbo application. Hands down.

The shearing issues with RP seem to mostly be related to 5w30 weight. Haven't heard much squawking about shearing in 10w30?

I have friends who have run the 10w30 with excellent results in a lot of high horsepower engines and I have used it some myself with good results too( I tended to run more 20W-50 but did use 10w30 and 10W-40 a few times in my muscle cars and hot rods ). I have never owned a turbo vehicle however so no personal results to comment on but I know of people who have run it in turbo applications and it has done well.

I have used Redline a few times too and it is a very good oil. I have had such good luck with RP though I just stick with it. As another poster mentioned above as to why he stays with RL and hasn't tried RP = I see no need to.

Either oil would be a good choice is my humble opinion.
