Red Line MTL vs. GM Auto-Trak II

I emailed Red Line asking them if they had a product that could replace the OE GM Auto-Trak II fluid spec'd for the GM Auto Transfer Case.

Here is there reply

"In the transfer case I would recommend the MTL, a good replacement for the original Auto-Trac II fluid.

Wonder if anybody has tried it or what your thoughts might be about trying something different from the OE fluid. In my case my truck is long out of warranty so I am considering it.

Thoughts?

Redlines MTl blows everything else in the same catagory out of the water. Anymore it is all I use for manual transmissions is Redline and no other brand any more! I just have not found any other brand M1,Amsoil,Royal Purple etc.... that can match it!

The AutoTracII is an ATF type fluid with special additives.

Since it is OOW, then it may be ok, but MTL has a slightly higher viscosity and and higher AW/EP additives than AutoTracII.

Maybe give it a shot because you are outside the warranty.

IMHO - this may not be a good call for this application. There must be a reason Amsoil and most all aftermarket companies won't recommend a generic for the Auto-Trak II. If MTL works, why wouldn't the Royal Purple and Amsoil MTF work, which are lower vis than MTL?
