Red Line MT 90

It took about 1,000 miles in my subie before I got the full affect of the redline.
I had my 5speed fluid changed to Redline MT90 hoping to clear up some notchy 1-2 shifts. Not too impressed with its ability to perform miracles. I found no improvement in the shifting. The forum I frequent for Mazda MX6 seem to think highly of GM Synchromesh. Anyone know about this stuff as it would apply to my notchy shifts?

Have you tried the lower viscosity MTL or a MTL/MT90 (50/50) mix?

Although expensive to keep switching out fluids I concur with MolaKule, I went to the 50-50 mix of the two RedLines and found a significant difference. Since you have the MT90 not as expensive to drain and to mix the 50-50 uisng the old gear oil if you wish.
I picked up a 4 quart jug of MT-90 at lunchtime. Will add some RX to Mazda trans tonight (Castrol Syntrans) to clean it up and change to MT-90 soon. 2nd gear syncro's going away and winter coming, so will be interesting to se if it helps.
Rick getting annual dyno this saturday and adding RX then. Should take two weeks to get 1600kms up then move to RL. If it's half as good as it is in my Outback i'll be happy.
O.K., I am putting on my nomex under garments!!! I have decided to try Royal Purple Max Gear 75W90 in my 2003 Camry 5-SPD. I currently have OEM fill at 11,000 miles. I decided to try it instead of my old standby MTL/MT90 blend!
59Vetteman speaks pretty highly of this and the 15W40 Long Rider so I decided to try it. I will let everyone know if it is anything like MTL. Even if it is not as good as MTL it has to be better then the OEM fill. It (OEM fluid)has poor cold temp propertys and it causes a lot of drag until it warms up in the winter.
For anyone interested RP claims that it is GL4/GL5 compliant and that it is non-corresive. It also has limited slip additives already in it wich migh cause problems for some manual transmissions. I know on TOyota Trucks it does not matter but this is my first fwd Toyota car so we will see. If the synchro's are as agressive on their car transmissions as their truck synchros then this will not matter at all.
Someone was asking about GL4 gear lube for the rear of their Land Rover. THis might be a choice for you!

There are good reports here on Max gear. Dont see how you can go wrong really.
Like I said earlier conventional gear oil has always worked fine for 75% of my vechiles. I am sure that Royal Purple will work at least as well. I am not saying that RP is conventional oil either. I have to admit though that RP has it's work cut out for it being compared to MTL and MT90! I gave it the old sniff test and boy was it loaded with sulfur and seemed to smell some chlorinated compounds as well! This suprised me! I figured it would be devoided of sulfur or chlorinated compounds.
I am using MT90 in my Muncie 4-speed. Compared to 75W90 Pennzoil gear oil (MT-1 rated) the trans does shift easier.
I have RP max-gear in a BW super t-10. I have a buddy who has RL MTL in the same transmission in the same car. Both are driven with a great deal of...........spirit.
The shifting is very similar, although I might give the RL a very slight advantage in shifting (although it could be my imagination), and I would give the RP a slight edge in transmission noise reduction (although it could be my imagination). IMO, either one works great, and the decision should probably be based on price.
sbc350gearhead, I would have to agree with you. I just put Max Gear in my Camry. It reduced what I thought was already a quite transmission to nothing! The tire are now to load to hear the trans at all! It did smooth the shifting quite a bit compared to OEM fill but not like 50/50 MTL/MT90 mix does! I am not disapointed at all. If Max Gear hold up I would give it a solid second place rateing right behind my gold standard of MTL/MT90!
