Are we as a nation not doing a good job of recycling oil. Is used oil that much worse than the gunk they pump out of a hole in the earth? If I give back a case of oil for every case I buy minus the little bit I burn does my recycling effort go nowhere?

I wasn't aware of any other way to dispose of used oil besides recycling it. Been doing it as long as I've been changing my oil.
I'd suspect that what we return is WAY better than the crud they dig up.
It's just that we can't deliver tanker loads of it to the refineries to adjust their processes for.
I'd think that power stations (100,000 litres for a start-up) would be ideal places for used oil to be "reprocessed")

i think as high as motor oil prices are that they should give you some money back when you bring it back for recycle,like they do for drink bottles,aluminium cans etc
Where does all the used oil go? I don't see oil slicks everywhere . Most all gets burned as ship oil etc.
It's the only LEGAL way...but I know those who dump it down a hole, etc.
