Well, it seems clear in my 2013 Siverado manual... dexos or equivalent. So to that end I don't worry if the oil I use is on the approved list or not (it isn't). If it claims to be dexos1 compliant, I am comfortable with that. I just concentrate most of my efforts with the grade of oil they recommend, but don't lose any sleep over it.
