Hi,

I have a supercharged (Magnacharger mp112) 2005 GTO w/ an LS2 that's on stock internals still. I'm guessing I'm at 480 at the crank, not quite sure, no dyno yet. I'm currently using the Castrol european 0w30 and would like to know if anyone suggests changing to a higher weight, and what brands.

I don't track the car, its mostly a daily driver that gets romped on a good bit on the street. It currently has about 42k on the clock. I'm looking for a 4, 5k interval on the changes and not sure if I want to toss the money around for Amsoil and the likes as it just seems a bit too pricey for me. I've been looking at Mobil 1 0w-40 and the PP stuff, basically I'd like a very good synthetic.

Anyway I want a good bang for the buck, but also to know the car is getting a well matched viscosity for the power its putting down. Thanks for any input, I'm not too knowledgeable about oils.

If you are saying you have Castrol Syntec 0w30 (German Castrol), it sounds like you have a good oil to romp on. Hard to shear and a good amount of zinc compared to other oils in its class. It is almost a 40 weight, and is well-known to be very hard to shear down. That's what I'd stick with. Have you ever gotten a used oil analysis on this beast?

You got to post a picture of the car and another pic under the hood first, then we'll give you the good answer.

Nate,

Fellow Goat owner here. 05 LS2 with Corsa Sport, Kooks, Volant, SLP Predator and a few other things.

You a member on ls2gto.com?

As for oil, Ive run 0w30 German Castrol, Mobil 1 5w30, RP 5w30 and currently Valvoline Syn 5w30 in mine. All showed well with the Castrol 0w30 providing the best coverage here in Vegas.

Since you are out of warranty, I would say stick with what you got. Its the best per $ spent. Red Line and the other stuff is going to be just as good as what you have.

Hey man... I'm a member (nsurge), that's where I found out about this site. I'm chalking up another for the German stuff, seems to be the consensus.

How much do those oil analysis run anyway? Seems a lot of people get them, so I can't guess they are that much.

I know it's not exactly the same, but my buddy has been using the same thing in his Trans Am with a blower on his 5.7

It's his daily driver and a track toy. No oil related failures yet...

I didn't know the analysis was that cheap, very good to know.

SnakeOil, when you say same thing, you mean same blower, or you mean same oil, or both?

He uses 0w30 Syntec in his 5.7L Trans Am WS6 with some sort of aftermarket S/C. My guess is he has about 60K on it. I was simply saying that the GTO and the F-Body's aren't exactly the same.

A friend of mine has a yellow GTO. He raced it for the first time last summer, couldnt get a decent 60-foot time with the car,but before the season was up,he finally bought some drag radials

Over the winter, he bought himself a Procharger supercharger kit,so this year he'll be packin yet more tire-shredding power

Sweet! I'm working on the tire situation now... 1, 2 and mostly 3rd are completely useless under boost...

I'm thinking about grabbing some VR1 20w50 oil for this next fill, and then switching to the Amsoil after that... What do you guy's think?

LOL. Spinning the tires at 70mph was fun at first, until a Kenne-Bell supercharged Cobra went by me as I was spinning. Now it's Quick Time Pros all the time.

In your climate, I think any quality 40wt will do good. Have you checked out Redline's straight 40wt (rated as a 15w40)? IMO, you can't beat a straight weight oil for a supercharged or nitrous application and it flows well when cold too.
