this is a 4.0L VVTEC (i think that is right) motor.
mostly city driving (ie 12 miles to work).
only has 6800 miles on it so far.

Mobil 1 EP?
Penzoil Platinum?
Castrol Syntec?
GC?

i think the manual states i have to do 6000 OCI's.

i have Purlator Premium 1 filters for it already

i'm only interested in oils i could find at wallyworld, az or many/moe/jack. thanks

Regular Mobil 1 has produced great results in Toyotas. Easy to find and a top oil. Use the weight recomended in your owners manual. Meets the latest SM GL4 specs.

Be careful and check with your service manager. I have the same truck and engine and was told that anything but Toyota oil and air filters could cause warranty difficulties with the manufacturer.

By the by, Toyota filters in themselves are pretty darn good.

Is that legal? I thought the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act covered situations like that?

Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)).

I am going to try the Mobil 7500 blend in my Toyota truck. I think it is a great price point. It should give you most of the benefits of the synthetic without as much of the cost. It should easily go the 6000 miles.

I changed the factory fill at 750m to Mobil 1 EP 5w/30 and a Mobil 1 filter M1-209 which is an oversize filter.
A full six quarts takes me just a little over the full mark on the dipstick.
I'm at 2300m and last tank of gas got me 21 mpg with 32" All-Terrain tires/custom wheels and a 3" lift kit installed.

i was all set to get M1 EP or Penz Platinum, but when i got to wallyworld and saw the prices for a qt, i took a step back.
realizing that i need a 6k (or less) oci to maintain my warrenty (like Tones above mentions) i noticed the Mobil Clean 7500 and zoned in on it. that along with a purlator pureone and i think i am set for the entire non-summer season.
as Tones mentions, the price point Vad is a reason for choice as any.

First off, do yourself a favor and stick with Toyota oil and air filters. They are great for anything on the market. They both generally will give you 2-3 oci's

but most here will say and I will most times change the oil filter because I do 8+K drains on an 04, and I know from experience that you can double that number with Toyota products.

The Oil, I would Use PennZoil...

Toyota OEM filters until the warranty is over.

When I took my car in for service, they noted on my papers "non-OEM spec oil filter". It doesn't hurt my warranty at all but it still bugged me that they noticed...

Anyway OEM filters are especially well made (I highly like the depth media ones)

Also Havoline 5w30 works really well in Toyota engines if you want a conventional oil that will last the 5000-6000miles.
