So, I gave up cable and besides relaxing and exercising a LOT more I find myself wanting to read a lot more. Just read Vicki Myrons "DEWEY". I have a old as in 1892 era Shakespeare book that's thick as a bible I am reading. Please recommend me some non fiction books and novels. I also am reading Herb Brooks biography as well as Anthony Kiedis "scar tissue" book. As you can tell I read a ton

Thank you wonderful folks in advance

I like Cormac McCarthy if like something in a Hemingway type. No Country for Old Men, The Road, or Blood Meridian. Hemingway's books are very good, too. The Sun Also Rises or For Whom the Bell Tolls.

I'm fond of a Japanese write Haruki Murakami. The Windup Bird Chronicles is very good. It's a dreamy kind of style of writing. I also liked Kafka on the Shore.

The Trial by Kafka is excellent as are the standard dystopian novels from school such as 1984, Fahrenheit 451.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelly is a great discussion of medical ethics wrapped in a horror story.

If you want some African-American type novels, I can recommend Invisible Man. I'm currently reading The Known World and it's ok. Not my favorite.

I'd recommend looking into the Sloan Technology Series.
I first read "City of Light: The Story of Fiber Optics" and that led to reading other books from the series. They were all pretty good reading.

. Sounds very interesting. I always say "books provide knowledge that tv and radio cannot"

Nonfiction?
"Dark Star Safari" by Paul Theroux was a good read, but anything written by him is a good read.

Clancy was a favorite of mine. These days I prefer non-fiction, life has too many interesting things in it.

Got a local library? These days I enjoy walking to it on Sunday and reading the paper, then strolling the aisles to see what might interest me. If you read a lot, you can just grab as many books as they will allow you, and if you don't care for the book, just not finish.

Our library has some e-reader program which I have not checked out yet.

Supton: the library is half block away and there is another library over the bridge. Yeah, I frequent both libraries often

Fiction:
Michael Connely's Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller novels
Joe Haldeman: The Forever War
Stuart MacBride: Birthdays for the Dead and A Song for the Dying

Nonfiction
Robert Edelstein: Full Throttle: The Life and Fast Times of Curtis Turner
Paul Frère: Sports Car and Competition Driving
Art Garner: Black Noon: The Year They Stopped the Indy 500
John C. McManus: The Dead and Those About to Die
Rob Siegel: Memoirs of a Hack Mechanic: How Fixing Broken BMWs Helped Make Me Whole(Disclaimer: Rob is a good friend).

Cool, mine is like 2.5 miles.

I recently read Citizens of London and am working through Monte Cassino, WWII books. Just picked something up on the history of coal; a while ago I read a book about the history of artificial light. I have a book around here about ecentric scientists and the things they did.

Books. They're like television for smart people.

A few that are some of my favorites:

In the Heart of the Sea.....Nathaniel Philbrick

Write It When I'm Gone.....Gerald Ford

Thunder Dog.....Michael Hingson

Walk Across America.....Peter Jenkins
