I've got a 6 speed Getrag transmission in my 08 Caliber srt4. I dislike the way ATF+4 feels in manual transmissions (this one and others I've owned). I'd love to go with an MTF fluid that would work well in a Getrag transmission. I know Getrags are found in many vehicles. I was considering trying out BMW's fluid that they use in some of their Getrags, I know Ford and Toyota have fluids as well. Anyone recommend a good fluid that will work well in terms of shifting and long term protection ?. thanks for any replies.

If you want to try an MTF under 10 cSt, maybe give this a go:

How you like your Caliber SRT and how is it maintenance wise. Is it easy to drain the fluid in the transaxle. In the PT there are 2 pipe plugs to drain and fill.

I won't be driving this much in winter so perhaps the Amsoil MTF is the best choice of the two, I'd like to go a bit thicker than atf, so I think Amsoil is the choice. I've used it before in other transmissions, but I've never owned a getrag. If it works in the BMW getrags it should be good in mine.

Maintenance wise there is little to do, the maintenance intervals are pretty long on all fronts. Oddly the owner's manual tells you very little about basic maintenance, they even want you to take it to the dealer to change headlight bulbs. This is the first vehicle I've owned that doesn't tell you how to change tires and no lugnut tightening specs either.
I owned the previous generation srt4, the caliber seems to get better fuel economy from what I've seen so far. I've been pushing it pretty hard at times, if you stay out of wot situations the fuel economy is quite good. I expect it to be pretty good on fuel. Lots of great features and options on this car, I enjoy it very well.

Have you crawled underneath to see how difficult it is to change the trans fluid??? also how easy is it to change the engine oil??
My father has a 2.0 in a caliber sxt. I havent crawled under it to see. I am considering a SRT4 for my next car, will need something good on gas and Turbos appeal to me
can you get 30 mpg on the highway?? My PT GT amy get about 27 highway at best, mostly avgs about 25 day in day out.

Changing transmission fluid is going to be very easy, as will oil changes. The oil filter is close to the front of the vehicle as are the transmission drain and fill plugs. The Caliber has a bit of lift to it so it isn't too bad getting underneath, though the front spoiler is low.
I think 30 mpg should be easily attainable on the highway, particularly having the 6 speed transmission. If you stay out of heavy boost on the highway it should exceed 30 mpg by a good shot, if you use boost regularly then fuel economy will certainly drop, it all depends on the right foot. I haven't done a full highway trip yet but will pretty soon. I find fuel economy numbers to be pretty confusing these days, so I'll see how it goes in real world conditions. Keeping in mind we are in frigid temps up here still, and winter gas as well. I think this thing will be pretty good on gas in "normal" conditions.

the Caliber srt4 is rated at 29 mpg highway and 23 mpg city, with 25 mpg combined, US specs. I'm up in Canada with our specs being 26 mpg city and 38 mpg highway due to the larger sized gallon. This car is more fuel efficient than the last generation Neon SRT4 that I owned, despite the fuel ratings being lowered due to gov't standards in the last year or two.
