Real world Michelin Cross Climate review with FWD

Those FWD Ev's are definitely at a disadvantage too. The weight distribution is much more towards the rear than the same vehicle with ICE and that hurts traction. A big people carrier with just FWD is also handicapped in the traction department, especially loaded up. Not an issue with AWD EV of course.

It a good tire for packed snow. Not so great in deep snow, since the tread blocks are long (helps in the dry handing though).
Right now it would be tough to beat these for use year round. 60K warranty, 3 peak rated, good rain performance from a top tier company.

We got just under 12" of snow not long ago and I was able to pull my car out of the driveway and I went around the unplowed block to see how these tires were. It did well imho (mind you mines AWD, not FWD.) Drove quite straight though the TC was being activated I wasn't bogging down much or anything. Imo I found these tires did better in the deeper stuff then the slick/icier stuff...

Go to 3:08 where the Mini starts to have trouble in the plowed mound side of the road

Fluffy snow like in the first video isn’t an issue for tires. Going through wet snow is a lot harder, but great to ski/snowboard on

We used to run General Altimax Artics on my sisters 2010 Malibu for the past 5 winters. She never had any issues getting around and had to drive that car with snow up to the the bottoms of the doors a few times. Going up and down steep hills no problem. The one year we took the winters off a bit too early and ended up with a big snow storm. With the Goodyear Comfortreds that were on it at the time, she said the car was all over the place and the ABS kept kicking in.

Fast forward this year, we got a set of the CrossClimate 2s for the Malibu and just left them on all winter. She says she notices no difference in the snow over the winter tires and has had no issues under the same conditions. I really love these tires because they are safe in winter conditions, but they are still good in wet/dry conditions. A lot of winter tires suffer here and when we get those random 60 degree days in winter, they get kind of dicey.

I am very impressed with them so far. They are extremely predictable and ride incredibly smooth. I will say the Defender LTX is slightly quieter and smoother but the winter performance is incredible with the Cross Climate 2’s. And the LTX is by far no slouch in ice and snow. Heck their better than practically every AT tire I have ever owned. The Cross Climates will be my wife’s next set of tires. Now if they would only make the factory size for my Tundra…would be purchased in a heartbeat…

P275/65R18 hint* hint* Michelin

I just ordered a set of CC2s in 215/55/18 through BJs (slightly oversize from factory 215/50), it's getting late in winter and I don't want to use the factory Goodyear Assurance Finesses which are just too sloppy handling and have absolutely awful wet traction. I'm selling those and getting some CC2s installed. Hopefully they'll be good enough I can start saving the $200/year cost to switch between normal all seasons and winters. I was flip flopping but the CC2 won out because of $70 off 4 michelin tires and free install from 4 michelins from BJs right now. The CC2 is rated excellently for steering feel and handling performance as well as wet and snow. I want a sharp, precise tire for the Taos and the CC2 fits the bill especially at the price.

I *really* wish I’d known about these when I bought tires for the lex a couple years ago. The set on my wife’s CRV are spot-on.

The cc2 wasn't around then, but cc1 was. I've been using them since 2015, still the same set. down to 2 tyres now as I ripped a sidewall on 1 of them last year.

I'm limping through this winter with new OEMs on the Jetta (they actually haven't been bad) but next fall it will be new CC2s!

Got them installed today. Ended up having to get them installed at Pepboys instead of BJs because they aren't the exact same size as the placard, they won't install them. Unfortunate since that means I can't get the free installation but whatever. Was surprised they won't allow a +/- % like Costco apparently does.

Anyway, they are great so far for the ~40 miles I've put on them, and I think they look great on the Taos.
