i have both and i find the real one drys better. i can get it to absorb the water without streaking

I thought the fake one wold do the same, but it does not. Am i doing something wrong?

Which particular product are you referring to? I've been using the Absorber for years and never had any complaints about it. I like working with it better than with real chamois.

I also use the absorber towel thing, still works great 2 years after I bought it.

And on a side note it smells like silly putty, lol!

^^^Absolutely agreed. I throw mine in the washing machine and it looks just like new again.

I bet I've had that thing for ten years... great product!

I have used a real one, the Absorber, and Water Sprite. The Absorber is by far the best. I found that if I did not wash the car well enough you will get streaks,as well as if you get any dirt in it, you need to really wash it out well.

My fake chamois leaves behind tiny water drops that the real one doesn't. Maybe I'm not wringing it out enough. The real chamois works like, well, a real chamois. The fake is really great for door jambs, wheels, trunk opening, etc., where I don't want to use my high-dollar goat skin.

My absorber never leaves anything behind. The Water Sprite does and needed multiple passes. And yes, I wring my Absorber out like it owes me money. lol

The absorber is great...you do have to follow beind it with a microfiber because it does leave some water behind if you go too fast.

However, after getting a Griots Garage waffle towel - I've seen nothing that works better.

How is everyone caring for your drying towels? I started washing things using "laundry soap" and drying them without a fabric softener (the dryer's been softener free for over a year now), and my bath/cleaning/drying towels are coming out real nice. I haven't gotten the soap amount quite right though - the nice thing about laundry detergent vs soap is that it doesn't leave soap scum in the washer. I also have hard water in my area. :p

I think the softener is the key here. It's a No-No! If you want a drying towel to keep drying, you don't want it coated in anything. As for cleaning, I've seen some dedicated microfibre cleaners and other products but haven't tried anything special yet.

Anyone else here have any experiences with cleaners and softeners, etc. and gotten different results?

I just rinse the absorber in fresh water, wring it out and put it (damp) in its container. It's supposed to be stored damp.

I never wash it in any soap/detergent, but I guess you could.

I bought a Viking brand waffle weave drying towel off of Amazon, and it is flat out awesome. It's the best towel for drying that I've ever used. It's a huge towel, and it was under 10 bucks.

I have some Cobra Guzzlers towels that I bought awhile back for a lot more money. I haven't used them yet,but I can't see them being much better than the Viking towel. Maybe so,but we'll see.

I have an Absorber that I've had forever. I like it,but it does leave streaks, and it's kinda hard to dry with it in humid weather.

Another vote for the Absorber. I have two, one for jambs and one for the exterior. After years of use, I've found the best way to use it is to keep a bucket of fresh water around and flush it out after every couple panels. You'll be surprised how much dirt the Absorber picks up post-wash and since you've flushed it out, that dirt won't show up as little spots after the car is dry.
