I have been using the Motorcraft OEM filters on my '92 Explorer and '06 Five Hundred since they hit the shelves at Walmart . . . never had a problem. 273K on the Explorer and 200K on the Five Hundred . . .
Now if I'm not mistaken I just purchased a Napa Gold oil filter and it says Mann+Hummel on the box, and isn't that the same company that owns Purolator?

Yes it is, and up until recently, Purolator and Wix (who makes NAPA filters) were completely separate lines that did not mix, but lately there seems to be some cross between them (some Wix have all the trademark Puro filter tells such as the base plate and center tube).
Not sure if there are any Wix made/Puro labeled filters out there.

All of Napa gold's original numbers are changing over to a new #.. Oh well, go with the flow I guess. SMH.. it's a shame Hastings doesn't use silicone valves...
