The rearward strap had no copper. It was literally 100% corrosion.

I salvaged the eyes and ran 3 parallel lengths of 10 ga solid conductor. It's 8" long. The insulation is green, no less.

Does it need to be woven copper. I want to solder the terminal.

Are there other ground straps in an '05 4.0l Ranger?

You can buy pre-made ground straps at any auto parts store. Flat open weave to braided insulated ones with any kind of end on them.

Solid wires will break from vibration, usually at the points they are attached or touching something.

It does not have to be woven, stranded is good enough to allow the wire to flex enough with vibration.

My Ranger has several;

1) From Frame …. To Box
2) From Hood …. To Hinge …. To Firewall
3) From Engine Block …. To Firewall
4) From Computer Wire Harness …. To Firewall
5) From Battery …. To Body

I've always kept them clean and oiled and never had any problems.

If it's bed-to-frame there shouldn't be any flex.

The cab, though, is on rubber mounts. Should get stranded copper. I'm surprised it isn't grounded at the cowl or firewall straight to the engine to the battery.

Thanks,
I know grounding is important. You can eat off my battery and those of my family members.

MasterSolenoid's list is what I'll be looking for and addressing today. 1 + 5 from that list is verified done.

SMALL PROBLEM:
I've checked 5 parts outlets.
All have a grounding strap listed but they range from 14" to 18" long. I know I can wad it up or cut it and add a terminal.
Custom making shorties might be what I'd do if I install something electric on the hood.
If there's no work light in the hood (shame on me for not knowing "my truck") I won't bother grounding it.

As an experiment I'll coat any braided strap with 5-56. Then wait another 15 years to see how well it prevents corrosion.
