RAM1500 is coming without Start/Stop system

Hallelujah, praise the Lord, Allah, and whatever else.
So, now the RAM 1500 HEMI is not only coming without a hybrid system, but they have also eliminated the Start/Stop system.
And before anyone jumps in with: it is not that bad, it saves fuel, I GET IT!
But if there is a system that constantly reminds people of government interference into daily lives, it is the Start/Stop system. I always claimed that those who want to push stricter emission requirements would do better by getting rid of this annoyance. Otherwise, people are reminded every day that someone decided when their engine will shut down, when to start, etc., and people will hold a grudge because of that.
Good for RAM and Stellantis.
Now, let's see sales numbers.

I doubt anyone who chooses to drive a RAM truck will complain about this.

It feels like the most correct course of action is to allow the consumer to decide, though; you should be able to toggle it off and have it persist through restarts without any nagging. Axing it entirely seems a little bit crude.

As I said, there is nothing wrong with chasing emissions. No one likes pollution. But they should be more strategic about choices. This really annoys people.

The compliance credit for auto start stop is gone. I imagine the only concern now with programming it this way is that the EPA test cycle would presumably have to be completed with ASS (fitting acronym) off, but it's probably a microscopic difference in the end result.

Then the only reason for Dodge to entirely remove the feature is to save a little money in putting lower rated starters and maybe reverting to flooded batteries, assuming they were using AGM. I don't like ASS, but this is cost-cutting.

I guess we'll see, but I'm not hopeful. What I've heard from someone on the inside is that the company doesn't have a solid vision for the future besides bringing back their old V8 and spinning it as cause for celebration; this seems like the same sort of deal.

I think on average ASS adds $1,500-2000 in expenses. Doffernet starters, bearing coating etc.
AGM will probably stay. AGM is much better with all this electric equipment inside. BMW is using them 24yrs, long before ASS.

Well, in my JEEP - it led to that ignorant little AUX14 battery buried under the electronics module. These little demons have killed whole systems - cost an extra $120 - and you don’t want to fish one out in a Texas parking lot come August.

When I eliminated mine - a stronger H7 AGM went in the upper box almost 3 years ago - never missed a beat …

Really current non-commercial vehicle emissions are very low. A large chunk of emissions is highway busses and trucks, but you can't just force electric or super new semis on owner operators.

Hopefully the hurricane loses the stop start battery. Hemi only had one 12v due to hybrid system. Don't think they will revert to lead acid due to newer crash requirements. That acid flying everywhere is a bad thing.
The vision is building what the public wants, choice. And new midsize and compact pickups coming soon of course. 8 years late of course.

There must have been enough of savings (cost cutting) to pay for cost of engineering the system out. In short next year is first year starting system for these trucks which might be fine however all car makers struggle here.

I'm just glad Dodge (RAM) decided to get smart and bring the Hemi engine option back. That, and getting rid of the silly hybrid system. It's a truck for Godssake, we don't need no stinkin' increased mileage thingies.

Fortunately, I have been able to program out the stupid start/stop feature on all of my cars and several of my friend's cars too. I'm sure the EPA is in that black helicopter that keeps circling my house .

People seem okay with emissions and fuel economy strategies that are wholly transparent.
After all, who wants increased fuel consumption and emissions?
The rub is that many drivers will find obtrusive strategies like stop/start and variable displacement unacceptable.
Good enough reason to do away with both and the same emissions standards have to be met anyway.
After all, nobody buys a truck to hypermile.

This is good news. One of my favorite things about my 16 is that it doesn't have start/stop. I don't mind the MDS myself, no issues and I can't tell when its doing anything, so if I get an extra MPG I'll take it.

I was in traffic the other day with a newer GMC truck that had start/stop and also had a loud exhaust. I like a decent sounding exhaust, but hearing this guy's truck shut off and restart at every stop light became annoying pretty quickly.

Great news, hopefully all true. I was glad they brought back the Hemi but wasn't thrilled they all had the E-Torque setup.

The Jeep we just traded in had a Start Stop Eliminator on it as the PCM was re-starting the engine before the clutch was fully depressed. You could feel the clutch dragging as you put the pedal to the floor, very stupid. I forgot to remove the eliminator but I highly doubt it would have worked on the Yukon we replaced it with. I am on the fence about installing a module that eliminates the cylinder deactivate and auto start stop or just the start stop eliminator. Either way, both have to be removed before taking the vehicle to the dealer for service.
