Apparently today, it will be announced that Ram will be providing a 10 year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty on the Ram line for 2026.

This will be non-transferrable, for the original owner only. Will apply to leases and business owners, but not for fleet purchases.

Claims that this is motivated because 80% of truck purchases are financed for terms which are exceeding the existing 5 year warranty period.

Kind of a tangent to the OP but I'm curious what percent of loans are over 6 years at this point. In my head a 6 year car loan in the max that makes sense. Beyond that if you can't afford the payment you can't afford the car (not a fact just my opinion).

That's what people said about 72 months loans before 84 became the new normal, and what people said about 60 month loans before 72 became the new normal, etc etc

In that way it seems like the oil weight discussion where people are always skeptical of the newest version. But in reality if you assume someone will not pay off a car early the longer loans are actually worse than shorter. In the oil weight discussion (and other new adoption scenarios) there isn't such a certain conclusion.

A 10 year/100,000 mile limited warranty which is non-transferable. (engine and running gear only)

I'd bet the owner has to have a full complement of service stamps.
I predict the service desk WILL NOT remind you to present your book for stamping. Yes, more dealership hate.

What was the old warranty and how much of the old warranty was transferable?

Not following you at all here.

This is a move that companies make when they're falling behind.
I tend to think so too, but since 300k is now the new 100k I wonder if they aren't just looking at the numbers and realizing that hitting 100k without a warranty claim is actually quite probable. I'm guilty of wanting the mostest reliability etc, and looking at the web and finding all the horror stories and finding reasons to avoid any given vehicle for any arcane reason--but reality is, most cars seem to be going to 100k without issue. I wonder if they aren't trying to capitalize on it, and pick up some sales from people who might be more willing to sign a 6 or 7 year loan in the process.

The powertrain warranty on my diesel is 5 years/100k miles and transfers to the next owner if I were to sell it. Bumper to bumper is 3/36.

Another solid marketing move by Ram. I do wish they would have extended the BTB warranty though; I'm more concerned with the electronics on the thing. I test drove a '25 1500 and upon startup, the screen was completely frozen. Worked fine after a reboot, but not confidence inspiring on a brand new vehicle.

10 years 100k is no an unreasonable period to warranty a car. There is no reason why a vehicle should have to be out of pocket within that time frame.

If folks really cared about "going green" we would require at least this period for warranty, bumper to bumper......I say extend it to 15.

You're probably right. It is a tool to sell cars, a tool that might increase sales, and at the end of the day that's all that matters to them.
