Rain-X Latitude Wiper Blades

I get three years out of my wiper blades. I use the Swedish Safe Sight blade sharpening strip, which is attached to the lower windshield. Each time the wiper wipes, its blade gets dragged over the sharpening strip, which cleans and sharpens the blade. Works great!

My good friend Torkel, the Swedish submariner, gave it to me in exchange for a bag of macadamia nuts.

You can see two strips behind the protective paper: each Safe Sight strip consists of two parallel strips of clear plastic.

Rain-X and other, superior windshield treatments work fine above 25 mph. Below that speed, for example in stop-and-go traffic they do not work sufficiently.

You can cut an apple in half and rub it over a windshield. It works for 15 minutes almost like Rain-X.

Maybe add some apple juice to the washer fluid?

There's already nanotechnology that allows hydrophobic coatings on all sorts of surfaces (mostly optics, so far), including windshields.

Rain-X is like the MMO of windshield water repelling treatments. To harsh and abrasive - you need something that slowly penetrates the glass. You can break off chunks of glass and clog the washer nozzles with Rain-X.

I had several flat tires the last few months, should I add Auto-RX in my tires so that it will repel all those nails from the tires ?

I read this before reading the post above, and was like *** I've never had chunks of glass break off my windshield because of Rain-X.. It's too early for me .:)

Don't worry about that, I was speaking in tongue.

Rain X in actuality is a great product.

Ah, whatever. A little bottle of Rain-X costs me $2.00, and lasts five years. With a fresh coat at highway speeds wipers are simply not needed. At slow speeds, you can run your wipers at a much slower rate (a wipe every five seconds instead of constantly) and so you save both your blades, and the wiper motors if you're worried about that.

A lot of times, in the rain I notice people driving really slow, wipers running like mad... they are driving slow because they can't see! Meanwhile I can see just fine. If I were king-for-a-day, I'd make Rain-X mandatory. If I were an insurance guy, I'd hand out free bottles from my office.
