I'm just throwing this out there. Does anyone know how to make their own radiant heat mats for radiant heat flooring? The mats look so basic, as if they are just a wire thats "s" curved on a mesh mat. I've been pricing these and they are ridiculous prices for what you get. It just looks like a simple wire set up, with a thermostat. I think the thermostat regulates the electrical input and that controls how much the wires heat up. Kind of like an electric blanket.
So, what kind of wire do you get for this? How would one go about making one of these setups?
Anyone out there know? Ive googled and can't seem to find anyone that has made their own.

It is probably mineral insulated nichrome wire in a thermoplastic mat. What you are paying for is the UL listing. Home made versions could be a major fire or shock hazard.

I have been in a house with floor radiant heat. Your feet constantly sweat.

Also you need maga insulation under it or it becomes inefficient.
