Quicksilver is now available? Sheesh.

I'd be willing to bet that if a Tesla is painted in that color and is hit/ damaged you're talking an entire vehicle repaint.
Probably would just have to extend the blends into additional panels beyond the adjacent replacement part / repair damage.

I bet it is a 4-stage paint with 2 levels of tinted / metallic clear below the final clear coat. So basically like a 3-stage pearl coat but with an additional layer of metalized clear to give it depth and shimmer.

It’s been teased for a year , I started to see them on car carriers going down I5 6-8 weeks ago, don’t you keep up on Tesla news?

I have been talking with the Santana Row team for months. I ordered the new M3P about 2 weeks after it was released. There was no talk of the Quicksilver color and it was not an option. I have not seen one, and I live in the #1 Tesla area.

Tesla first introduced the Quicksilver paint option in Europe in 2022. Quicksilver was exclusive to Giga Berlin at the time because of its newly-developed more advanced paint shop compared to Fremont factory and Giga Shanghai.

From Giga Berlin:
Quicksilver is a highly-pigmented metallic paint, designed to change depending on viewing angle & light. According to Tesla, these new Quicksilver and Midnight Cherry Red paints have up to 13 layers of paint to give them the look of hand-painted colors.

Until now, only Giga Berlin had the equipment to offer this color.

It is paint no matter if it is on a ev, gas car or riding lawn mower. 2k is not bad but 8K is bending someone over regardless of their income.
I made a mistake; Quicksilver was offered at 2,000 Euro, or about $2,600 USD. Original reports had the price at $8,000, but were wrong. US demand for the beautiful color required Fremont to upgrade their paint equipment to the German factory equipment.

Quicksilver and Midnight Cherry from Berlin. I understand some deep pocket US buyers purchased and had a few Cherry cars delivered due to the beautiful paint.

That red is stunning, for sure a premium paint but it is going to be one of the hardest to refinish.
As of May 2024, Tesla's Midnight Cherry Red paint option was only available at the company's Gigafactory Berlin in Germany. However, Tesla has said that the paint shops at Fremont and Giga Texas will eventually be upgraded to apply the color.

Gorgeous colors but even the slightest damage repair will be extremely difficult. I like nice things but I think having 13 layers of paint, each layer intended to augment the other, is overkill on a street car. IMO there becomes a point when things become impractical, if not ridiculous.

From what I read Axalta (Dupont Cromax) is making the paint so aftermarket availability should be no problem, full panel respray should be doable albeit quite difficult. Touching up small chip will be terrible and will never look right, this one will make tri color white pearl which itself is a bit of a horror to match look like child's pay.
Brandy wine over cherry red is one of my all time favorite colors but owning one for a daily is not an easy thing.

There's a guy near me who does all the exotics in the area. Very small shop; his prices are very reasonable due to no office overhead. He told me matching the pearl white on our '18 Model 3 is the hardest of all the Tesla colors.

OMG - I don’t pay much attention to paint colors - but that smashes all I have ever seen - and I lived in crazy places with exotic cars all over … Thanks Trav …

Pearl white is a pain to match. I think it has to do with how our eyes process colors. With white there’s nothing to mask a variation in the pearl itself.

I've heard plain old white can be difficult to match.

One of the most difficult for sure, there are so many shades of white, the shade of primer used and even the pressure at the gun will change it, on top of it you must use the best and the most clear of clears or it can easily "tobacco stain". Add pearl to the mix and it is frightening. When painting pearls and flakes it is helpful use a little spray out car instead of a flat card to see how it reacts at every angle, thermochromic and chameleon pearl is really special.

It sounds like it is almost pointless not to repaint the whole car in cases like that instead of trying to match a panel.

That Midnight Cherry Red is BEAUTIFUL! I'm a sucker for white and black and everything else sucks but since I've been buying used color has been kinda random. Right now I have "ugly GM silver-bluish" and "ugly GM beige-gold" in the driveway. But if I was ordering a new Tesla today I'd have to go for that "Midnight Cherry Red" if it was available (doesn't look to be, based on the website).

Unfortunately I'd say that's the case. Luckily the majority of cars I've had major repairs on have been gloss red and did not have any pearlescent. Torrid red on my GTO and Tornado red on my current GTI.
