I've used several Schaeffer products and have been pleased. I've done UOAs on your oil and they returned good results, but fuel additive results are subjective. In Schaeffer's Technical Data for diesel additives they claim some level of improvement in the cetane index from 2 to 4 points. However at the bottom of the TD for Diesel Treat 2000, for example, it states "at the recommended treatment ratio, Diesel Treat 2000â„¢ Ultra Low Sulfur will not cause a measurable effect on the cetane index" There is a similar statement on the TD for Carbon Treat.

My question is how can both of those be true?

I can see how one may get confused. Schaeffers manufactures over 25 different formulas of fuel treatments, The Diesel treat 2000 line-up is three of them. the 137nd has cetane improver as does Diesel treat 137ulsw, while the 137sum has just a touch. Point is some have cetane improver in the chemistry while others have little or none. All members are free to pm me with ANY questions with regards to Schaeffers and I will do my best to answer them or get them answered.

No, it's not confusing, but misleading, as the Schaeffers PDF uses both cetane rating & cetane index.

Page 2, above the bolded text - "When used at the recommended treatment ratio, Diesel Treat 2000TM Ultra Low Sulfur will not cause a measurable effect on the cetane index, aromatic content or sulfur of the fuel.."

You got a point. Schaeffers gets to spinning off different formulas for different purposes. Sometimes the copywriters and or editors are not chemists and differences get overlooked. I will pass this along.

"Cetane Index is a calculated test with no correlation to Cetane Number which is an actual ignition delay in a mechanical engine." from the formulator.
