I was cleaning my interior today in my car with the car off and i didnt realize i turned the heater knob to speed 1 then after i got done cleaning my car i went to start it and 8min later noticed the heater was on is this ok? Does it cause any problems to have the heat on when right when u start the car if the car was cold? It was like 45f outside.

It doesn't hurt anything, but the car will warm up slower because the heater is taking heat out of the coolant while it is trying to warm up. Can cause issues in a diesel if it's extremely cold at a low idle, I've seen my Ram temp drop if I slow idle it with the heater running (and no winter front), takes out the heat (via heater & intercooler) faster than the engine creates it.

Yes - You didn't hurt anything, but it does take longer for the engine to warm up

My dad does this too, but I usually let it heat up until the coolant is at least 20-30 celcius so it can defrost effectively.

I have thought about popping the sunroof to let residual heat and moisture out of the cabin, the interior is going to reach ambient temperature after a few hours anyway.

What do you think happens with people that start their cars and crank the heat up and go inside for 20 minutes to wait for their cars to warm up?

Yes, like me when it's horrible here.

Same thing if I let the heating/AC on Auto in my diesel. Fan comes up at the lowest lowest speed, then kicks in as soon as the engine is warmer, generally takes 1-3 minutes depending on the outside temperature.

The G37 on automatic climate control functions similarly. The fan will stay low until there's some heat in the engine. If it's on defrost and automatic climate control, it blasts the fan right away in the cold, though.
