What is the difference between Amsoil's 100% synthetic 5w30 Motor oil and the Extended Life 5w30 Synthetic Motor oil.
I see that the 100% syn oil has a 25,000 change interval, and the extended life has a 7,500 change interval.

Is there any other options out there that are cheaper? I dont mind paying for something that is worth it, but why when there is a competitor with the same thing cheaper...

Thanks fellas.

Amsoil is a FANTASTIC oil, but there are other good oil's like Pennzoil Platinum and Mobil 1

Which one would be better? i knwo you need to know what I drive and all. I dont have my manual handy, but its a f150 4.2l v6. Highway driving only and I'm 99% sure it says 5w30. I drive fast sometimes but not like 90. 65 average, around 75 sometimes. I dont really accelerate hard, but again occasionally I do.

The 100% synthetic is just that a true synthetic while the xl is "fully synthetic" (type III), that is derived by highly refining dino oil. Note that many synthetic oils like syntec, pennzoil premium, rotella t etc. are type III oils and are very good just not 25,000 miles good.

Mobil 1 EP oils are a good "budget" alternative

+1

What is the API certification mean/have to do with it? Is it better?

Lastly, I need a good syn oil that has good detergents. I have not been good to my oil and I want to clean out my engine. I was going to add some MMO, but I may not. Maybe 1qt? Or just use a high detergent oil?

API certification costs a lot of money. I think amsoil coughed up the dough for the xl product line because they are going for the "mobil 1" market and in that market an api symbol on a bottle is important (but really meaningless in this case). Pennzoil platinum claims to clean as will rotella. Some add MMO for a whole OCI some for just the last few hundred miles.

Alright, I'll add 1qt of MMO in with my oil change when I do it.

What is your opinion on Ford's motorcraft oil? My buddy works at ford and can get their oil cheap. I'm not sure if its Syn or Semi or Dyno. But your general opinion?

Motorcraft semi-synthetic is a solid oil as are the dino flavors. Not quite in the same category as the synthetics you were asking about though.

Thanks! I think I'll still go syn, just have to decided on one.

So it seems that the EP Mobil 1 is the same ( well pretty much ) as the Amsoil XL line right?

Out of the XL syn and then Mobil 1 EP, which has the most detergents?

At the normal Motorcraft price point, it's a very good choice. Getting it cheaper would make that even better.

Also something to consider...
Amsoil's major supplier of PAO base stock is Exxon/Mobil, the largest producer of synthetic oils in the world. They purchase some Group III base stocks from Shell, Petro Canada, and others. About 90% of their additive packages come from Lubrizoil.

I honestly believe it has nothing to do with coughing up the dough. In order for those products to do what they do. They would not meet API specs IMHO....my 2 cents.
Not that those products are bad, they're great. API is just probably behind time...like all other certifications in this world.

Do you mean XL vs. regular M1? They are very different formulas, but for your usage you'll see little difference. Save your money and buy the Amsoil XL. Contact me via PM and I'll sign you up as a preferred customer. Case price is $4.93/qt.

Thanks for the offer, but I would only but the amount of qts at a time I would need. I think its 6 or 7.

It used to be true, simply because the P was too high. Not anymore. Plain and simple reason is Amsoil doesn't want their formulas held hostage.
