Quaker State Ultimate Durability or Mobil 1- What is the main difference?

Just wondering if someone can shed some light on this for me. Quaker State Ultimate Durability seems like a great bargain at about $6 less than M1 for the 5 qt jug. Planning on using one of the two for my next OC. Is there something the M1 does significantly better than Quaker State Ultimate Durability?

I`m no expert here, I learn something new everyday myself. But I would have to say go with the Quaker State Ultimate Durability.

Haha. But seriously, both are fine oils. I've used both in the past, and am currently using some leftover Mobil 1 0w-20 in our Fusion right now.

I changed mine and put in Quaker State Ultimate Durability last Saturday afternoon. So far, I really like it. The engine runs really quiet and accelerates well. So far, so good.

Not true.

$6 difference is the cost of the marketing

that one uses IMO.

I'd use the one that is the cheapest if it is NEEDED in your app. Your engine will NEVER know the difference. That is a FACT.

Even if the prices were the same I'd prob go with the Quaker State Ultimate Durability.

Equal engines probably will perform very close to the same with either oil would be my guess, but to say it's "not true" that M1s is not superior the QS base stock is strange to me. Also where is the $6 differance you speak of? In these parts it's much closer than that with the exception of an occaisional sale.

If the OP is going with a 5w30, the two oils are virtually indistinguishable performance-wise thanks to both meeting dexos1. I've seen used oil analysis on both oils in Cruze 1.4T engines, and there's no difference in wear or length of service, at least in that application. One might have better additive packs or better base oils. It's not turning up to make a whit of difference, though.

I'd like to try out Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0w20 in the new 5 but nobody around here carries it. Mobil 1 0w20 is easy enough to find and currently on a bundle sale at AutoZone so that makes the decision pretty easy for the first oil change.

I'm a big Mobil 1 fan but I would agree a lot of the price difference probably comes from the marketing, and just because Mobil can charge that much more because it's a stronger brand with a longer history and a larger following.

I can get either and I'd run either. I'm running Mobil 1 0w-20 in the Sienna now because I could get it in quarts at 5 bucks a quart. Otherwise I can get the Quaker State 0w20 in 5 quart jugs for a little over 4 bucks a quart. Sienna takes oddball 7 quarts.

Mobil 1 is readily available in 0w-20, 0w-30, and 0w-40; as well as the normal flavors. Quaker State Ultimate Durability is usually only available in 5w-20, 5w30, and 10w30.

I've seen Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0w-20 5-quart jugs at the local Wal-Mart. I'll likely give it a shot in the Fit once the current stash of M1 and Synpower 0w-20 is used up.

When it comes to lubricants for use in automobile engines built on a production line, there was a time when that distinction actually mattered. Not any more; the evolution of additives and continuing refinements in processing natural crude oil have erased the performance differences.
