Quaker State UD mis-labeled?

I just changed the oil in my Hyundai Santa Fe this afternoon with another run of QS Ultimate Durability. After changing the oil and cleaning up I noticed that although the 5 qt. jug is clearly marked as 5w-20 weight, the bar-code indicates that it's 10w30 weight. Now I'm wondering if SOPUS mis-labled it. I checked another 5 qt. jug I have in my stash and it's marked the same way.

I sent an email to SOPUS, but haven't got a reply yet.

Does anyone else have jugs of Quaker State Ultimate Durability labled this way? Has anyone ever seen this problem? Now I'm wondering if I just put the wrong spec oil in my vehicle. . . .

I would find it highly unlikely that you put the wrong weight in your vehicle.

What is the bar code number? Pic?

I have Two 5 Quart Bottles that say 5W20 on the front. Just checked the Bar Code it also says 10W30?

My bar code has 0 73102 04892 8 bit right above the bar code it says "full synthetic 5w20 5qt".

I can easily tell a 5W-20 VS 10w30 when I drive my car. The 5W-20 allows the engine to rev more freely.

You can't tell by how your engine feels?

Just for fun since so many bitogers claim 5W-20 is water thin when they're pouring it.

While I was at Wallys I took a 5W-20 and a 10w30 clear 1 qt bottles. And tilt it side to side gently. The 5W-20 is visibly thinner because it more more freely.

Here's SOPUS' reply to me:

I thought this was odd. . .they state they have no reports of wrong labels, yet here I am reporting it to them. They don't seem to believe me, although I have the jugs in my possession. It seems like they'd ask me for more info on the jugs I have to determine if there IS a problem.

It seems that if they were really customer-oriented, they'd be more concerned about something like this. . . .

I am planning on a trip up north early this spring to Wisconsin. Rather than take a chance will pickup some other synthetic 0W20 or 5W20 for the vehicle and save the oil in question for mid summer use.

I too think that you did not get a very good reply from the company.

I have the same deal but on a 5 qt jug. To be fair to QS, I also had a Pennzoil Platinum 5qt jug with the same labeling and I remember reading somewhere Pennzoil saying it was just printer error on the barcode not effecting anything. I will call SOPUS.

Yeah, that's just dumb. If the barcode and label don't match, how do they know it's the barcode? Could be the product. Lame.

Just spoke with SOPUS. The front and back label both say 5w20, but the barcode has 10w30 printed on it. Right above the barcode is the number 550015364 (5qt jug). This is their control number for the blending line and correlates to Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w20. SOPUS acknowledges that this is a printing error on the barcode (the barcode is correct), and the contents are correct according to the front and back label (ie Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w20).

Hey modularv8. . .thanks for calling them--I was going to when I got home from work. At least they admitted to you that it was a misprint--that's more than I got. Also, I sent them a new email complaining about their initial response and basically they responded that if I was unsure of using their product, they'd reimburse me for the cost of it. They still stopped short of saying they misprinted anything though. . .it sounds like their attorneys are crafting the replies, i.e. "don't admit anything to anyone. . .deny pictures and video that isn't in color". . . .

I'll still use the Quaker State Ultimate Durability, but just once it would be nice if a corporation would respond with a direct, concise answer on an issue without trying to CYA. . .geesh!

dont take the chance or better yet send a sample to blackstone and let them tell you what weight it is...It would be worth it..

Rather than chance it, I bought another brand of oil as while up north in February for an aunts 95th birthday will possibly see some below 0 temperatures & my vehicle will be sitting outside while there.

Will use up the 2 5 quart jugs of the questionable Quaker State Ultimate Durability Oil next summer rather than take any unnecessary chances.
