Will it pass BEFORE it's used?..Just kidding;
I have 5w30 GB in my ranger and 10w30HM in my exploder..
Seat of the pants meter tells me they are both happy :^)
It is a good campaign. It doesnt pass ALL tests though. MC5K and XSF have best in class volatility (ASTMD5800) - 12.8 v 13.6 v 14.3 for MC/GB/VWB. Make MC5K it a better oil?
Why would anyone who knows nothing about oil run that Quality Oil? It says right on the back label in small letters that it "Does not meet new car warranty requirements"! Maybe PittPenn is contracting with the Feds on the new Clandestine Clunker Erradication Program. Ssshhh! ...
I don't see how it's not just run-of-the-mill marketing. The sequence IVA might be interesting, but the D445? Not shearing/condensing out of grade is an API requirement, not a special achievement. And what are we to make of everything else not included on there - that it failed?
I ran QSGB in the late 80's and it was a superb oil back then for sure. My friends and I raced a few cars and would constantly do things like tear a motor down and add a HP cam or whatnot and the internals were always super clean with almost no wear at all. We were all QS fanboys back then. It's good stuff, and definitely under-appreciated around here. I had never heard of a sludge issue until BitoG. The one circulating around our parts of the world was the old Pennzoil sludge rumor. We were scared stiff of that stuff and wouldn't touch that yellow bottle with a ten foot pole. Turns out both rumors were stupid and without merit.
Many of the tests "simulate" ageing in a bench test engine setup with teardown and parts checking and deposit weighing. Many spec though are on VO not "used". The Tests have to be repeatable and controlled. Read API SM/SN and ILSAC GF4 its not too bad a read.
++ Most importantly, I dont know if (loss of) cold flow properties on aged oil has been addressed.
