The old stock shocks (I guess Hitachi?) were completely toast. Done well before 30K miles and very dangerous to 35K.

Better than new no comparison

I’m sad to admit I should have done it sooner. The truck just would squat and wallow and bounce crazily.

Of course I still feel bumps but recovery is very fast and confidently consistent.

5100 are height adjustuble, right?
I am toying between 4600 and 5100 once Tocico on Sequoia give up.

I got the 4600s because I wanted to keep more of a stock height/ride quality. I only have the rear shocks on so far. I will do the front struts in the future.
The rear shocks were OE Motorcraft with over 200,000 miles. They were not leaking, and still had pressure:oops:

If you're trying to decide between the 4600 and 5100's make sure and contact Bilstein first. In a lot of cases, if you're not doing any height adjustment the 4600's are valved the same as the 5100 and will save you some $$.
True. There really isn't any change in ride between the two of them. I would probably go with 5100's at the stock spring height just because I think they look cooler than the 4600 lol

Looking at my truck this AM, just having the butt level and up a hair from the sag............well it looks cooler! :ROFLMAO:  (y)

My 4600s are 8yo on my 2500HD and still going strong. Pulled a lot of trailer with them and won’t buy another brand. I tried talking my dad into buying them for his Ram 3500 dually after riding with him 5 years ago and he said it was fine. Fast fwd to last summer and he sends me a text he bought them and loves them as it really made a difference.

I think I'm due for something. Took a long highway drive yesterday (2hrs each way) and rougher parts were bouncy and a rough ride. Bridge joints sent me airborne. Shock are original and 12 years old, but only 52k miles. It passes the bumper test, but its pretty hard to bounce a 3/4 ton truck, even at my size. I'd like for it not to feel like its crashing over every pebble. (crashing - get it? hahah!)

Pablo - have you found the ride is softer, or stiff but controlled?

A little stiff and VERY controlled.

5100’s are the gold standard in shocks for pickup trucks IMO. they are the only shocks i reccomend and install other than 6150’s (big brothers with remote reservoirs for looks). had a good friend of mine go against my recommendations with FOX shocks and he already has leaks and hates the way they ride.
