Its a great day when a oil filter gets delivered! Even greater on a Friday!
Got my Purolator Tech TL10241 for my 2000 V6 Camry. Comparable to ST3614 but I noticed its a bit taller. More Media!!!! Heck yeah!!!!!
It has holes instead of louvers which I am thankful for. Made in China date 12-19-24. They try to get tricky by putting a almost flag and saying All American Brand on the box. Anybody believe the 96.5 @20. Box says 96.5 but I have also seen a sheet in the Amazon pictures that says Boss at 99 @20. Thoughts? For $2.50 with ship its cheaper than the Supertech! Is this my new filter?????? Would you run it???? Is my Toyota doomed????
OCI currently at 5k with 5w30 R&P!

I’d run one, they have proper holes. I bought a Purolator red to get free shipping thinking it would be the same as a Tech. Nope, it had louvers, so I gave it away.

Did you cut a couple open to measure the difference in media area?

There are other reasons that one filter can may be longer than another. Sometimes it is nothing more than the design of the end caps. Or a different bypass type.

Besides the Purolator One made in Korea these are Purolators best.

Never noticed before the Puros are a little longer. Blue St with combo valve ecore
2020, white ST 2025 don’t use this kind, adbv probably leaks, and Purolator 2024. Also, the blue older ST says USA factory certified, the white new version ST says 75% or more USA. Puro says made in USA.

Purolator's website shows no efficiency info with a micron rating. You'd have to contact Purolator to find out for sure. Boss at 99% @ 20u ... no way, old info or misprint. I talked to Purolator about the Boss a day ago, and it's not 99% @ 20u ... more like @ 46u.

Info on the Purolator Tech.

Here's how bad 96.5% media looks....

Yeah. I saw another video Whip did on the Tech. From two years ago. Forgot the exact model #146...something. it compared the Tech to the regular Purolator. Basically the same except for nitrile vs silicone Adbv. The microscope showed pretty much the same media....but did not have the holes like your picture. Perhaps media made in different shops for USA made vs China made? I wanted to share the picture but can't screen shot on this tablet. Most likely user error.

I’ll use just about any filter except Nissan on my 2018 rogue. The Nissan filters are fine on the newer 2.5 but the adbv flips open everytime I’ve used one on the 18 and stays open. I’ve got theories as to why but Nissan won’t listen. The pure ones and boss have been just fine of the rogue and is pretty much all I’ve been using.

As I posted on the link in your previous thread, topic application made in China. So unlike the made in US made TL14610, topic an M&H "Puro", i.e. name only. Blame M&H for the American branding deal. That said, for $2.40-$2.50 I'd use it, no problem. Boss a completely different media, so imo efficiency comparison to it false equivalence. Boss always been low. At least for the US made, I believe it's the standard red with nitrile adbv. Like I said, for the price and jobber tier filter, worth it imo and in my experience.

Yes, I discovered that in a c&p and then found at least two others previously posted but not recognized. Not only does adbv lose function, the space left between the element outlet flange and the baseplate when adbv slides down allows for oil bypass where the adbv collar was. Especially for an OEM product, no excuse.

The Baldwin B33 etc have a very small gap for the adbv to open into, other makes put stand offs on the adbv to limit the movement. I think other models of the Bosch may be different. The one in question that moves has a large gap to open into which I think pulls and stretches the rubber enough to move it over the outlet seal. That my theory.

My 09 Altima and 18 rogue have an initial rev far greater than my 21 and 24 Altima. Same (kind of) 2.5 but tuned differently. I’ve stayed with Nissan filters until out of warranty on the 21 and 24, and never an issue. The 09 and 18 was always the same result. My theory is the initial burst of oil flips open the valve and or makes it slide down. Either way, it’s a crappy design on an otherwise well built filter.

I covered what I thought was going on when discovered off a 2017 Rogue. To avoid repetition I'll link to that thread, post #7. There is nothing special about the 2.5L, and the adbv flipping and moving down the outlet should not happen. When you say never an issue, if the adbv flipped and slid down that's issue 'for me'. Personally, would never use one again. As for the filter, even without the adbv issue, nothing special 'to me.'

If you are happy then be happy, bud. When I could find them for $2.40 they were my go to filter for quite a while for my oil burning 2.4L 2007 Camry. I ran them for 3k miles and all was well. No, they are not ultra efficient but they were cheap and well made and got the job done just fine.

Is this a substitute for say a Napa pro select filter?
