I normally use Fram Ultra filters. I am looking for a filter to replace the Fram made Subaru/OEM filter. Subaru specs a 23psi on their OEM filter, though others have reported using a Fram Ultra at 12psi with no issues. To meet the powertrain warranty requirements, the OCI will be a low (to me) 6k miles.

I understand now. Any deals out there on OE filters? I would avoid Purolator like the Plague, and shop for deals on OE filters if running an aftermarket filter is a problem.

Wix makes filters with the correct Subaru-spec bypass, and they even offer XP versions, too

There is no problem with running an aftermarket filter. Check my signature.
My understanding is the filtering capability of the Fram made OEM is no better than a Wix filter.
The biggest question is the OEM 23psi requirement. Not many aftermarkets meet that.

The Boss is about the same efficiency as the XP. The regular Purolator One is still 99% at 20 microns. Boss is 99% at 40 microns.

A Purolator (red can) came on the HST of my $500 Kubota. After doing a fluid and filter change, I cut the old filter open. Overall the media looked great, but the ADBV has little rips at each baseplate hole. No thanks.
Reinstalled a WIX as the Kubota filter for that was nearly $20.

To be fair has anyone reported a torn Purolator One or Purolator Boss. They are supposedly the ones with the 99% and 99% plus efficiency. Check www.pureoil.com

I have a year old P1 I pulled after only a few hundred miles for startup clatter. I will C & P it eventually.
Perhaps I have been lucky. I have never had a torn purolator filter and I cut open every filter that I use.

The period that I ran Purolator was mostly before I had a cutter. Once switched to Fram Ultra I had several left over Purolator and motorcraft ... when cutting them open new...you could tear them like well, uh, paper. Premium blends like M1 have far stronger and thicker medium. That's a fair enough comparison since full synthetic rely on wire backing
