Purolator PureOne 14610 Cut opened - Interesting

This came off a 2001 Acura Integra
3500 miles
Oil was Valvoline MaxLife 5w30

After reading all these tears, i decided to change my oil out early and im glad i did. Normally i run these p1 to 8k miles with two 4k oil changes. I no longer believe these can be used for longer oil changes.
Look closely and you'll see a pleat ready to tear. I applied very light pressure to the area thats ready to tear and it tore. Oil saturation + weak paper material = a tear waiting to happen.

Fram Ultra 7313

Been a purolator user since 2007. I will be using other brands now.

Will there be a smoking-gun memo uncovered similar to GM's ignition switch situation where an employee wrote an email warning and nothing was done? Its hard to believe Purolator never knew until the fanatics on bitog cut one.... maybe two... open (sarcaZm Zone) and found a 1/2-micron sized tear.

I am guessing that Purolator is aware of this problem, and are working on a solution. To admit to a problem might invite lawsuits and adverse publicity.

Who knows, they could be reading this thread now.

I'm betting Purolator is reading this forum now after seeing how much talk and postings there are of torn media. They would be crazy not to read up on what's going on with THEIR product.

The important part is that they address the problem and resolve is ASAP, after all making oil filters is NOT rocket science, I cannot believe that this isn't a fairly simple issues to address. After all prior to 2010 this didn't seem to be a problem at all. They need to go back to what was working before.

No doubt caused by an attempt to save a few pennies in the manufacturing process.

Haha thanks. I use a needle nose plier. I just puncture a hole near the rim and pull the metal back slowly. Takes about 3-5 minutes.

Im liking the fram ultra. No weird noises and i plan to do 3x 5k oil changes with this filter. Got it for 5.xx after discount and rebate so this filter becomes a bargain!
