So I saw the Purolator One PL14459 on Amazon for $2.75 free ship. I figured I'd buy a couple for my kids car. 99 Honda Accord 4cy. This is the 9688 in the typical Fram/Supertech line. I noticed it looked shorter than others. I looked it up and it is 2.95" tall. Bypass pressure is 12-15 and thread pitch is 20x1.5 mm. The Fram is 3.08" tall so not that big of a difference I guess.
Does anyone know the larger alternative to this filter? Just curios for next time I buy.
Also, I noticed the can had a small dent near the top. I'm gonna run it but what would you do? These filters are also made in Korea so I think thats good right?

Interesting that it's made in S. Korea and has the non-painted crimp around the can. Does it have holes or louvers in the center tube? Looks like Purolator is contracting Korean factories to make some filters.

From my notes when I had a Nissan Ultimia. Can dimensions are shown for all three. The PL14610 is the longer version of the PL14612, and the PL14459 will also typically work in place of both - at least it did on the V6 Ultima. But the PL14610 is the largest .... at least years ago when I made these notes. Who knows today without comparing them now. Any potential cost cutting can only be verified first hand.

Speaking of cost cutting on a side note. Comparing the total media area between the last Motorcaft FL500S I used vs the one before that, the latest one I cut and inspected had HALF the total media area, and the filter can was the same size. The diameter of the center tube increased and the number of pleats decreases. Obviously a cost cutting move.

It has holes which I am happy for. I dont trust louvers, but at least we know to look. What about the normal oil change people who have no idea of the poor build quality nowadays. Any stories of people getting a bad louvered filter and not flowing correctly? Damage?

I haven't heard of any, but BITOG is just a pebble on the beach in terms of filters being used around the world. I know I've seen plenty of filters on the shelves with louvers way too choked down for me to buy.

These S Korea made One’s look excellent. Best Purolator IMO.

There aren't really any larger filters in that thread size. Besides, the PL14459 that's made in Korea has more filter media than pretty much any other filter with a M20x1.5 thread. Here's how it compares to other FRAM 9688 and 3593A sized filters.

Where's the 14610 in the line up? It had more media than the 14459 back when I was using Purolators. The Korean made 14459 is a new animal.
