I was at Wal Mart today (Totally Wasted Trip) and saw that the purolators were on closeout all the way on the bottom shelf not that i wanted one anyway..I guess the word is really out there because they don't seem to be selling even at wal mart.

They were also out of the Fram Ultra i needed so i will stop by my old shop and pick up a quality Wix oil filter.

Well of course they're on close out, they have to make room for the new ones.

I doubt the reason they're on clearance is because consumer's know they tear, therefore won't buy them

I don't know Nick it's talked about on most of the automotive forums and people in the know also spread the word... I could care less because i was looking for a Quality ultra which they did not have anyway so i will be using a Wix.

Your average WM shopper is not "in the know" and as Nick said, they're making way for the replacement Purolators.

Does every single post you make have to include the fact that you don't use purolator anymore and like wix or ultra?

This also has been discussed before and you even posted in the thread discussing it.

Just in case you missed the latter in the signature.

Last time the Walmart near me "closed out" the Fram Ultra's they stuck them on an isle end cap, marked them as close out specials and charged MORE for them

. In over 25 years I've never seen a close out discount price on oil either. It just disappears off the self.

I think what he meant is dirt bags will swap out the fram in the Purolator box. Apparently, ten bucks is too much to pay for an oil filter.

That's what I meant. For sure it is happening every day. I've seen it myself now, an EG in an Ultra box, so it's common. Some WM's have self checkout, take the closeout filter box and scan it with an Ultra inside. Stealing it seems to me is getting more and more accepted. People have no guilt about it at all, some people.

There aren't enough folks on the automotive forums to have any impact on Purolator's sales. If there were, other brands such as FRAM would've been out of business long ago with the OCOD.

Well-they don't have the "People of Wal-Mart" tags for nothing! The employees aren't a whole lot better than the customers, either.

True-but they seem to be disappearing from a lot of retailers, Meijer being one of them. If Mann loses WM, that's a big hit-it'll be interesting to see if the red box Classics take their place, or not. Or maybe Rank/Fram will make a Super Tech filter comeback!

My bet is that they are bringing the SuperTech line back.

According to wemay, they are being replaced by ST.
