You're accusing car51 of not being skilled enough to cut open an oil filter with a $100 oil filter cutting tool?

It seems it only does it to Purolator filters. And always in exactly the same spot.

It is possible if your really sloppy using a hack saw or tin snips.
Car51 uses a Logacre filter tool:



As you can see, the blade can in no way go as deep as the tears in the two pleats (as well as the metal seam between the torn pleats being intact).
Plus 99% of the tears found on "normal" mileage filters are Purolator made filters.

I was planning on returning the Motorcraft FL820S I have, but I am for sure not using it now.

I cut open Fram and Wix filters with an angle grinder, no tears.

A fancy filter cutting tool only cutting 1 pleat in the exact same spot that all Purolators tear?

Yeah ok.
