Personally, never before seen a Purolator or Purolator made filter with that type bypass design. That type design looks more like one commonly used by Champ Labs only the blue composite type poppet is reversed, inside tube. I'm curious, what is the filter application number, date code and where was it purchased? Could be a new design M&H using I suppose.

In any case, if in doubt as mentioned, return for refund or replacement with prior inspection.

That style of bypass valve/leaf spring assembly is installed backwards in that filter. Prongs should face the bottom of the can. The element is not sealed at all and would allow unfiltered oil to pass continuously.
Green New Design !!!

Good catch ... yes, the leaf spring with bypass valve is backwards. Bypass valve won't work at all. And yes, the guts are probably loose too. Complete disaster. Hope it doesn't get sold to someone else.

With the spring should be shaped it would be in permeant bypass if it's upside down.
