it’s a shame that these aren’t efficient because they’re built extremely well.

All Boss's should have the "Smart Fusion" Polymer reinforced backing. Some WIX XP's are being converted over from wire backing to this Purolator backing but seems to be hit or miss on whether they get any backing at all on those filters.

Thanks! I had noticed the change over and was hoping the Boss wasn’t having the same issues. Has the Boss changed at all after M+H? Or did the Boss come out after the acquisition?

The Boss was the success story of M+H buying out Bosch's portion of their joint ownership of Purolator that goes back to the mid-early 2000's.

M+H wholy owned since 2013 and the Boss launched in 2015. I'm not entirely sure of any changes, they've been small if anything, but I do feel their quality control did better over the last few years on them. They even use white glue to match the white media.
