All,
For those of you who have used Purolator PureOne filters, what is the highest number of miles you've used the filter for? Also, if you had cut the filter apart after you were finished, was it "stuck" in bypass mode?

Thanks...

The highest that I've used a PureOne is 9k. I think I still have it but I haven't cut it open.

There is a myth to bypass operation. I took Ugly3's 9k PureOne and used a combo of 40 and 50 weight oil in subfreezing temps ..and didn't hit the spec of 12-16 PSID. It passed relatively quickly. It showed some "static" PSID at higher (140F) oil temps ..but that was limited to about 4 PSID in an accelleration mode. It appeared to react like a "surge". I'm pretty sure that I applied enough rpms to give it a good amount of flow (40 mph in low gear).

Naturally YMMV in a different engine.

How could you have missed this, Michael

Zero. I buy them. They are like the jewel of the stash with its paint scheme but I keep reading these threads and keep putting on penny Purolator Pluses while I read some more. Maybe next change.

I used MC's for 10-13K intervals.
Cut open a couple. The looked clean, very little gunk.
Could go 20K miles with no problems.

i change my own oil every 3 months, 95 neon, SOHC. usualy in about 3 months i will have about 1,700 miles or a little less racked up. i change because, i do go throught he sever driving issue, lots os stop and go traffic, shorter trips sometimes, so its not suppsoed o be good for oil. i am using a purone, i put on back in januray, with mobile 1 oW 30. looked at it last night, the oil, it was only slightly brown/black! ususly iwht other fitlers it would be darker than coal right now. its a **** good filter!
but remember all!!! i heard BOSCH bought purolator, so personally i de get a stach going, before Bosch tampers with it: (

I changed the Pure One and Mobil 1 in my 03 Ranger pickup last fall after a 10,000 OCI on both. I cut the Pure One open and found no problems. It was in excellent condition.

I have one on my wife's Windstar that has about 16k on it now and two years. I don't plan to take it off any time soon. My plan is to leave on another oil change or two. The windstar's OCI is 7k, she only drives about 8-9k/yr, so you'll have to be patient. When it does come off I will dissect it.

To date I've taken oil drop samples on business cards every 1k miles and established this data base. So far no difference can be seen regarding dirt rings or oil color with oil that has the same amount of miles on it.
