Purchasing another 1911

Buying yet another 1911, this one however will be a Smith and Wesson, currently I have 2, a Springfield Armory Mil Spec, and a Colt Model 1991. The Springfeild is modded with all Wilson combat goodies.

Actually technically I have three, because I also have a Colt Defender short 1911 lightweight I carry.

Well anyways, I plan on taking my girl out shooting so the Smith will be "hers."

What is your guys opinions on the Smith and Wesson 1911 model pistols? Should I stick with Springfeild?

The Smith is a nice gun. I'm a Colt guy - I carry a New Agent - but my dad swears by Smith. I've shot his and mine within moments of each other, and both feel amazing.

S&W makes a nice 1911. They have great customer service too, on the off-chance you have a problem.

I recently purchased a Taurus 1911 and it has always been dead acurate. I use a crimson trace site with it and where you see the dot is there the hole appears every time. It is kind of pain to clean but I think that is just the way the 1911s break down. My Smith and Wesson Sigma just slides apart with out needing a wrench. I did have to dremel off one of the ambidextrous thumb safetys to use the laser site though.

Smith uses an external extractor so it's not a 1911. It's something they call a 1911.

It's funny how their custom shop guns use a DIFFERENT extractor design than does their stock guns. Kinda' makes you wonder why, eh?

Stick with a real 1911 with an internal extractor.

Remington is releasing a 1911? wow, I will have to check that out. Any idea where it will be made?

It's called the 1911R1 and it looks pretty nice. I'm seeing sub-$700 price estimates, too...

It's manufactured for Remington by a company called E-PRC. I can't find out anything about this company. Can anybody advise?

The 1911R1 has already been released, it is nothing special and is certainly priced accordingly, $565 at my local shop.

I really liked the S&W 1911 I rented, even as a dirty old beat up rental it shot well. If I purchase another 1911 it will likely be the S&W.

The Smith and Wesson is a good pistol BUT terrible expensive in my opinion. For the money I'd get a Springfield myself.

The Smith and Wesson is a good pistol BUT terrible expensive in my opinion. For the money I'd get a Springfield myself.

My springfield had been trusty. I have singled it out to looking at the remington and or purchasing another springfield.
