The Pure one filters better then all of them and has a silicone ADBV unlike most K&Ns.

You can save even more by using a Motorcraft filter purchased at Walmart.
Motorcrafts and PureOnes are very similar in construction and filtering media quality.

Motorcraft construction is similar(silicone ADBV) and even better in SOME ford applications(threaded end bypass), but the media is not the same as the Pure one, in fact it filters more like the regular Purolator.

I have used k&n gold, mobil1, and pure one filters exclusively. I just put a pure one on my 2005 focus. Is the price difference between pure one and the K&n/mobil1 only because of the name brands? The k&n and mobil1 filters are the same price in my area of $10.50 and the pure one is $5.50. Which is a better filter for the money?

I think Pureone kicks *** compared to other filters for the price. Then again this is based off of what I've learned here (I now only use Premium Plus or Pureone filters for all my cars.)

For the money, the Pure One wins hands down in my book. The cans on the other two filters are thicker & have a higher burst pressure; but as far as filtering ability is concerned, the difference in price is unwarranted, IMHO.

Go with the Pure One & use the extra $5 to buy more oil.

You do not need Mobil-1's micro filtration to achieve 300K in any sound, cared-for, unsludged engine. If your engine is a mess, buy the Mobil. If not, the Motorcrafts/Purolator Pure Ones are great buys for $4-$5

Interesting, I thought M1 was by far superior on filteration over others.

M1
K&N
Pure one
Wix?

I'm sure I'm wrong through.

Mighty HD,

As far as filtration ability goes, I would rank the original three filters in question like this:

Mobil 1
Pure One
K&N

As far as flow is concerned, I'd rate them:

K&N - Least restrictive
Mobil 1 - An excellent comprimise for flow/filtering
Pure One - Most Restrictive The Pure One MIGHT stay in bypass a little longer than the other two.

I use a Pure One on my VW

I've always gone for flow & filteration ....so I went with M1. The prices are creeping up there lately for the filters so I may switch to a PureOne.

About 2 years ago the M1 filters were $9, now they're close to $11 !!

Check out the website
oilfilterstudy.com

You will see actual pore testing data on all the filters discussed in this thread.
The filtration order was actually a three way tie for first:
Pure 1, Fram Tough Guard, & AC UFP at about 10-15µm

Here is the whole list:
10-15µm
Fram TG5
Fram TG2 (FL820s)
Fram TG3600 (FL400S)
Purilator Pure 1 34631
Purilator Pure 1 24651 (FL820s)
Purilator Pure 1 20195 (FL400S)
AC UFP1218

17-23µm
Parker β10=2 Hyd
AC PF12
Baldwin
AMS Oil
AC35L
Fram PH5
M1
Donaldson Syntec
Fram X2
Purilator
Wix 60
Wix 86
STP
K & N
Super Tech

Hastings
Motorcraft FL400s*
Mercury
Donaldson std
Wix Racing S1515R
Fleetguard 1218

I tend to agree with Gary Allan and his theory on the high flow oil filters.
"My only point in this is that the restrictive nature of the filter ..or the flow potential of a filter is pretty much a moot point as long as the oil pump relief setting is not reached.
They don't alter flow at all.
Not one bit ..nada ..zip."

Now back to the free flow filtering discussion.
K&N will love you.

the one Pure One I cut open to look into would have stayed in bypass forever being it's bypass stuck open when I pushed on it(still have it for proof). Was not impressed with it. Will stay with my Motorcraft FL400s's/Wix's. Could not care how great something filters when it's bypass will just let all thats been filtered right back into the engine when it opens.

Actually if you look at Grease's study you will see real life numbers for flow and filtration. The FACTS are, for the filters tested, the Pure One comes out on top for filtration, the Purolator Premium Plus comes out ahead of the much hyped K&N on flow.

I'm also in the thinking that for most filters and engines, rated flow does not matter.

Is Grease's study still available on the net? Do you have the link? I would like to compare flow rates, especially to see where Wix stands.
