PSA: Avoid NTB unless you want to chance a rip off

Hindsight is 20/20. The whole thing was surreal that I was left kind of flat footed at the time. Fortunately, I had never had anything like this happen to me before (or after.)
If I had a do-over on this, I would have ended the transaction out in the parking lot after he got in the car and made a comment about the steering rack. That comment should have been the tip off right there.
Oil was fine and I did see him take a clean filter out of new packaging.
As for the $$, you are correct, I never did see it (despite many promises from the manager of the store and the regional manager.) However, I refuse to make myself miserable about it and chalk it up to an inexpensive life lesson ( many people have had life lessons that were much more expensive than this.)
I had spent a good many dollars at NTB in general and quite a few at this one as it was close to work and I could get things done during dead time when I had to go back to work in the evenings. Never again will I ever walk into an NTB.

@Tdbo:

You mentioned that you spoke to the store manager (worthless) and the NTB regional manager (almost worthless)

What people need to do in these situations is send a written snail mail (return receipt requested) to the CEO / President of the company.

If it isn't in writing and documented by an independent source as being received, it never happened as far a big companies go.

Did that--Got kicked back 2x to the worthless and the almost worthless. Actually, the store manager was more responsive than anyone. It's over and done with IMO, lesson learned, will never go back. I'll spend my money elsewhere. Hope others can avoid similar heartburn in the future.

Tbdo:

You made sure to send that CEO a snail mail, USPS "return receipt requested"?
What did the letter from corporate say exactly?

Also what did you ask from them?

1. Yes
2. Have sent 2 letters. First was referred back to regional manager. Second still has received no response. Have never received a response from corporate to this date.
3. Asked to be made whole ($66.19 reimbursement for repair bill.) Was verbally promised by both managers (that obviously isn't worth anything.) The Manager insisted that I return for a free oil change (he did it himself while I stood inside the bay) So with the free $20 oil change, I'm still $46.19 in the hole. However, as I have said, it was a cheap lesson. The only reason that I am responding to this at this point and linked this to the thread yesterday was to try and save someone else the hassle. This was not just a local issue. The chain when notified more than once in writing failed to adequately make amends for an injustice perpetuated by one of their employees. Never again for me.

Small claims court? At this point out of principle, I would make it my personal hobby to extract the $66.19 from them.

Why try to get blood out of a turnip? I spent more than $66.19 worth of my time and a whole lot of frustration and still never saw the $$. As I said, it's over and I have moved on but I will take the time to warn people to stay away because if there is a problem, more than likely they won't make it right. Anyone who thinks that this is a lone incident just Google NTB. It's an eye opener. Many people have had thousands of dollars of damage done by these guys. I feel fortunate that they just nipped me for pocket change.
