The OM says mineral hydraulic oil.

I have read online that folks have used Pentosin CHF 7.1 and CHF 11S with good results, but it is my understanding that the llS is a synthetic fluid.

Can anyone make any recommendations?

I believe you just need a fluid meeting the VW G002000 spec, which could be either mineral or synthetic. CHF 11S meets the spec and is synthetic, so it should be fine.

I used Audi branded PS fluid. Same price as Pentosyn.

Unless you want to flush and replace the OEM fill, that is.

Plenty of Pentosin CHF equivalents now. Gunk, Prestone, Bardahl, Penray, Fuchs, Penrite, Febi, Ravenol, LubroMoly, ... have full synthetic European PSFs.

Redline, BG, Wynns, RoyalPurple, and Amsoil also have synthetic PSF.

I have some 11S on hand so ill just use that. Thanks guys.

And yes. No generic PS fluid. I am skeptical of the Prestone Euro stuff too, but a few guys here have used it for top offs issue free.

Prestone MSDS is nothing to be skeptical about. Nothing generic about Prestone European MSDS or even the Gunk brand.

Pentosin CHF 11s and 202 will all work fine. CHF 7.1 is no longer made. If there is an AAP nearby, order online with the promo code.

Prestone makes a CHF alternative, called Prestone European power steering fluid. About $6 at Walmart for a 12-oz bottle.

You may be able to find Febi brand on Amazon that costs less.
