It makes little sense to audition speakers in any place but the room you intend to listen to them in.

But most folks are just hung up on the prestige of the name or the 'look'. Some very mundane equipment can sometimes sound really good!
 
Yep - the room makes a huge difference...
Something might sound wonderful in a store, but will be very different in your own room...

I was VERY lucky to be able to audition several amps and several sets of speakers in my own living room before making a decision on the best combination I heard.
Most of that fortune was due to Audio Advisor's (great company) 30-day money back/in-home trial policy, and that 2 sets of speakers that I had chosen to audition were also owned by 2 friends that lived within a few minutes' driving distance.

I was able to keep the amps and speakers for several weeks and listen to them in different combinations, and finally come to a decision without any rush.
