Since I've been building up a stash I have a question about storage since its coming up on fall and winter. During the fall we can see wide temp swings, like today is 91 and tomorrow has a high of 68. With winter we can have cold temps to -15 F. I've been storing all my oil in my garage that is not climate/temp controlled. Should I move my oil stash inside to my basement to avoid the temp swings and the extreme fluctuating and cold conditions?

One man's opinion: it's fine.
The oil is sealed, it's not exposed to atmospheric moisture or any other contamination and the temperature swings are far less than what takes place in your engine...
but if it worries you, bring it inside...

I agree with you.
Here it can get (normally) high 90s to well below zero. I keep all my oil in the garage (which is unheated) and before that a shed and never had any concerns or UOA on oil that was 7 years old.
I would not suggest keeping it in direct sun mostly for the bottles to have UV issues.

Stash them in solid plastic tubs in case they leak! Particularly Castrol, they leak a lot.

Is there anything physically different with the bottle where the clear sight line is along the side? I have a bottle of Mobil 1 0W-20 AFE that tends to "seep" from this line. It's obviously not too awful old (they've only been making the AFE for a few years now). It just struck me as odd.
I always kept my oil in the garage, but after speaking with someone from Pennzoil I moved it into the basement. Honestly I doubt it matters, but.................

I don't keep oil around for longer than two years, so I don't worry about it. I just leave it in the garage until I use it.

To be honest, I really never thought to put it anywhere other than my garage.
In your engine it goes from whatever the temp of where your car is to several hundred degrees while being exposed to moisture, Fuel and all sorts of other things. If it can handle that for the OCI, I would think sitting in my Garage would be fine for years.

Those big semis are not climate controlled, nor are the freight trains shuttling it around the country. It's fine.
I leave it in our unheated, unattached garage.

If I do have to do a winter oil change, which I try to avoid, although it does happen, I'll bring whatever I'm going to use inside the house the day before, so that it pours and then initially circulates more easily.
The oil will be exposed to lower lows and higher highs in the sump in use. I doubt that garage storage will hurt it.

The plastic bottle will fail before you have anything go wrong with the oil. (Why in the world accumulate so much that you worry about storage???)
