I follow the Flat Rate Master's channel on Youtube and he generally restricts his videos to advice and tool reviews. However, he recently posted a 30 min video of him working on his own truck. I thought it was interesting to watch someone as experienced and as credentialed as himself, work on a vehicle. There is always something to be learned from watching. I am not saying that I would have done the work in the exact same manner, but he is very organized and the work was done extremely efficiently:

Looks normal to me.

He wont retire from that work if he doesn't loose 50-75lb and give up the stogies.

You see a bunch of comments like yours here.
It would be nice to see current pictures of people that post this stuff like yourself with full health stats.
I have watched many of the very early movies from Germany. They were fat, drank like pigs, ate like pigs, and
smoked stogies, went to war, and lived to see 80 to 90.. Enough said!

Not to judge, but I'm surprise at how many guys in that line of work, and auto body, that are heavy. I would think with a job that physical, you could easily keep the weight off.

He mentions in the comments that it is his personal truck.

8 sec worth of watching took 5 min 15 sec, and that was it for me. I haven't learned anything new there nor was I entertained.
Sorry, but the lad needs to edit the 99% of video ballast out.

Kind of a boring video; I had to fast forward through a lot of parts. I recommend South Main Auto for watching a pro do work. Eric can make even a mundane brake job video entertaining to watch, and he has a lot of great in-depth diagnostic videos.

His videos are very slow paced and long, I have to watch them at increased speed.
His diagnostic videos are great, he is much more charismatic than ETCG and his wife is cute!

FRM's videos show up in my recommended Youtube feed more times than not but I do not subscribe to his channel.

From what I have watched of his video's, his stuff is not geared for average DIY'r consumption but to techs in the business. Also, it is just opinionated commentary on his experience.

That being said, that video of him working on his truck was to show naysayers that he actually does turn wrenches. In that regard, he made the mistake of caving to trolls.

He has also mentioned in another video that he moderates for South Main Auto when Eric O. does his scheduled live streams and filters the questions asked to Eric.

A lot of them have very poor diets. I know a guy who is in his late 20s and is pretty heavy who does HVAC work. He works a lot of hours doing physical things, but he eats very poorly. He only eats maybe twice a day, and when he does it is fast food. Eating only 2 times a day slows down your metabolism and combined with eating fatty foods will have that sort of impact.

Would you like the SS# and passport# with that.
Hit a nerve I guess. My BMI is normal and my health is very good except for allergies. I have no time for fat people who don't care enough about themselves to take the feed bag off long enough to save their own lives.

How much do you weigh in at?

First time I have ever seen one of his videos. I am no master tech but I started with auto shop in high school and have taken many tech courses over the years and have done most of the work on my own vehicles for over 50 years. I have the following comments:

* Don't really care if he is overweight. Has nothing to do with knowledge and capability in most professions. Some of the best techs I have ever known were obese.
* Would like to have heard some discussion of what he was doing and why.
* Obviously has a lot of experience and can turn out a lot of mechanical work very fast. Good use of specialty tools and very efficient.
* Don't think it is a good idea to smoke in any auto repair shop. Chewing on an unlit cigar would be OK.
* The funnel he used to put engine oil in the truck looked like it had been dumped on by a pelican with diarrhea. Would have cleaned it thoroughly before using.
* I have a set of the nylon clad sockets one of which (green one) he used with his impact wrench for the lug nuts. Do not think these sets are rated for impact wrench use (mine are not)
* Did not wipe off the oil filter area before installing the new filter. Same thing for drain plug. Use of brake cleaner spray is ok but still should be wiped off with rag.
* Did not fill oil filter before installing.

Would you like it better if he was wearing a skirt?
