Products that are call by the original makers name, not the real name.

Kind of off topic but has anyone ever owned an actual weed eater? I wonder if they can compete with the rest.
I had one about 15-18 years ago. It was the "$99 special" curved shaft. It did what I wanted but I gave it away when I bought a new Ryobi straight shaft with the expanded components for the end.

just my $0.02

Maybe not a brand name, but I grew up calling aluminum foil "tin foil". I realize that pre-WWII, there actually WAS foil made from tin instead of aluminum, just not sure why it kept being referred to by it's original name. Could be a Midwest thing, who knows.

My brother picked one up at a garage sale for $10, loved it because it only weighed 5 pounds and worked. It died on him after a couple seasons and he realized he couldn't get parts for it and you needed three hands to take it apart.

I’m guilty of saying McNuggets when referring to chicken nuggets pretty much from anywhere. My kids do too. We don’t even get them that often but they learned it from me.

I had an original WeedEater back around 1981 . When I say I burned it up I'm not kidding . Smoke came out and it was too hot to touch . That was my last electric string trimmer .

Before tin foil, there was lead foil. Terms are often carried over and make now little sense. Does a modern vehicle really have a "dashboard" like a horse-drawn carriage did and do we "Hit the hay" at day's end? Have you recently actually "hung up" a phone?

C’mon now you’re yanking my chain.

All valid points! I never thought of it that way. I still refer to a vehicles instrument panel as the "dash" (I shorten it).

This one is oddly specific, but I used to work at a car dealership, and in the shop we had an old master tech who's been there since the place opened in the 70s. He'd refer to any kind of refrigerator as a "Fridigaire".

Does dumpster count?
Yep, Dumpster was originally a brand name itself: Trademarked by Dempster Brothers, Inc. in 1963, dumpster is originally a portmanteau of the word dump and the last name Dempster.
