Printer?

I had issues many years ago with Brother, and switched to HP. No more HP. I might roll the dice on Brother, hopefully it plays nice with Linux. I probably got 8+ years out of my last HP, and had no issues with the ink drying up. It took less than a minute of shopping to be done with HP. All those good years of a loyal customer gone. lol
I would get a solid confirmation on Linux compatibility before purchasing

Great point, thanks! As I mentioned earlier I don't print much with it, mostly shipping labels, but a lot of scanning. I have a Windows PC but I'm not a Windows fan. I'll be looking into the Linux Compatibility for sure.

Brother windows drivers and associated software make bloatware look like runway models

I'm looking for a printer/scanner reasonably priced, $100-$150 range. Much to my disappointment I'm seeing they all have some kind of ink subscription nonsense associated with them, or buy something from Brother in the $400 range. Is there a printer in the price range I'm looking at that I don't have to be tied into a subscription or have problems with the printer opting out of a subscription? I print about ten pages a month, but do a lot of scanning. Thanks!
I'd definitely go laser printer as the cost per sheet is roughly. 01 cent per page vs .07-.10 per page for ink. HP used to have refillable cartridges that you could get a kit and diy. Not sure now. The epson ink tank is supposed to last longer and have fewer issues than cartridges. You can get a epson cartridge chip resetter and refill some epson ink cartridges.

We've had cartridge ink jets (expensive to run) and bottled ink jets (much cheaper to run) and we're going to get a black and white laser printer when our current inkjet fails. The colour prints are fine in the beginning but eventually the new prints are terrible. So we might as well have a black and white, and laser is good for that. And for the few photos we ever print, we'll have them done at a print shop.

Not a printer snob, and don’t print for work, like WFH, and Epson we got a year ago has been good for our modest needs.

The liquid ink refills are expensive but ink lasts a very long time. Far cheaper than any HP or Canon I have owned, with the pricey cartridges.

The document handler on the Epson doesn’t work well, so, scanning and copying is a bit of a pain. I wouldn't recommend it if your needs include lots of scanning or copying, but for printing? Yeah, it’s great having ink tanks and not crazy expensive cartridges.

Thanks, do you have any idea how well Brothers printers play with Linux? I saw a few .deb packages.

Unfortunately I have no idea, I've only used Linux for like 10 minutes my entire life but I would assume they work better with Linux than they do with Windows - if not purely because Window's whole "devices and printers" is a flaming sack.

You either don't print many things or you are broke buying ink cartridges.
I don't print much, the printer I'm getting rid of served me well for a long time. I just don't care for the nonsense with how they're marketing ink now.
