That's what I told my barber last week.

But it is a necessary condition for inflation to occur. The money supply has roughly tripled lately.

So what? High unemployment does not preclude inflation. This is something you don't want to deal with.

With very low interest rates and inflation looming, people are putting money into commodities because they look attractive. If people could make more money from other investments (from higher interest rates), they would put their money into other places.

One solution to inflation while adding to your net wealth: invest in selected shares of the above and reap 9-17% annual dividends & cap appreciation.

Ya'll got that right. I've since become the coupon king....I search high and low for coupons and have made this startling observation....Walmart is NOT THE CHEAPEST STORE OUT THERE. I was lead to believe, through whatever means, that Walmart can't be beat. But it can. You have to first become familiar with prices of what you like and then go to (this was a surprise) stores like CVS and Walgreens and look at their sales ad. This site, www.sundaysavers.com, has helped a LOT. I've saved a bunch of bucks doing just that and shopping ebay.

it's time to go back to a natural stake once a week, Illy or Lavazza coffee and Fortnum & Mason tea. The prices for those are steady, and all the savings on oil scores can be easily applied to fine food, cuban cigars and other luxuries, e.g. Heckler & Koch. WMart food is a misnomer for feed in my limited experience.

I'm up for high end tea and coffee anytime; I'll keep the stake for self-defense purposes.

Walmart was never the cheapest store out there all the time. Their basic non discount prices are cheaper than other nicer, smaller, more convenient stores' normal price, but most of the huge discounts you see (and coupons) are from manufactures' giving incentives to the stores to keep things moving and retain customers that want prices rather than conveniences (of not having to wait for a sales) or purchase in desperation.

Every store has the best deal once in a while (excluding mom's and pop's).

Decaf that I like, $10.99, now the same $14.75.

5# bag of the whole bean coffee that I use has gone up a whole $2 in the last 2 years. Buy in bulk and you can save quite a bit.

If it keeps a few more people from eating what they try to pass off as food then let's hope the price skyrockets.

A whole $30? For something that should last decades? Whoop de doo. If you knew prices were going to go up, why didn't you purchase your toilet when it was $99?

With the garbage that McDonalds serves the patrons will be sick or dead long before inflation becomes a problem.

Prices are up, there's no doubt about it. But there are lots of ways to save and make up for it in other areas.

One would be saving money and not eating Subway slop.

Do you stock up on toilets/keep spares around the house? I only buy a new one when the old one breaks beyond repair.

Cans of Tomatoes are up 45%. Many other examples of similar percentages.

Use coupons and buy in high quantities when good deals are found on things you actually use.

+1 and their two decades of selling near cost, to force competition out, has had the added benefit of brainwashing consumers into thinking they're the end all be all.

A dishpan there for $4 is $1 at Dollar Tree. Same injection molded plastic.

Corner bodegas and gas stations sell milk for state minimum price. Supermarkets and Walmart are about 70 cents a gallon over. The state minimum allows a good if not healthy profit for everyone in the chain.

I can still get a 2 lb can of miserable coffee for $6. Must just be the premium stuff going way up.

Also remember there have been a couple years of stagnation. A subway sub was $7 or 8 in 2007 and it's just returning to its normal. You could say the same about most commodities; it was a nice reprieve thanks to the recession.

My understanding for that is that it's to get as many people under 20(?) hrs a week so that they don't get employee benefits.

political thread? never meant it as such. Just a discussion of prices. If others veer it that direction, well take them out to the BITOG woodshed and flog them with a wet dipstick.

One area where I dont' see prices getting noticeably higher is in computer parts. Newegg.com has some great deals and overall good prices.

That's what we keep getting told...the reducing consumer electronics prices are keeping inflation under control.

I buy a computer every couple of years, a TV every 5 years, but buy food every day, can't operate without insurances, and would like to take my children bowling/to movies at least once/month.

Who can afford electronics with the price of everything else? Just more shuck and jive.

A lot of Electronics IS part of the reason why people don't have much money anymore!

Think about it:

- Cell Phone, Blackberry, iPad, etc. cost per month.

- Cable/Satellite cost per month.

- Internet cost per month.

- All those "Own it Now" movies, DVD's Season 1, 2, 3, 4, etc of TV shows.

- CD's, DVD's, Electronic books.

- All those nice, new Plasma, LCD & LED TV's.

Geez people, wake up - you've been FLEECED!! People would have lots of reserve money if they haven't been brainwashed to have to have everything!

I save approx $40-50 per week when I use coupons and Buy 1 get 1 free deals at the supermarket.

Lots of people are circling the wagons and going into survival mode with Prices of everything going up, uP, UP.
