I love the PQIA testing for their real, definitive, accurate information. Their testing, and their highlighted advisories, totally dispel the repetitive mantra that ALL pcmo's are "perfectly equivalent" that some here insist on. Thanks to TomNJ for posting this great info!

Why thumb down ? You mean thumb up, don't you ?

I think some posters here think that major brands PCMO's are good for reasonable length OCI. The key word is Major Brand Names, not gas station or 7-11 brand names.

^ This!

As can be seen in these tests, there is a pretty big difference between an Major national brand and some of the other stuff out there. But yes, I agree, it's nice to see this information put out there from an independent source.

I also want to express my appreciation to the folks and the owner of PQIA, you guy provide a reliable measurement of general quality and performance. Keep up the great work.

I have not noticed an "API certified" oil that has not been up to stuff. The other shady "American Pride" "U.S. Economy" stuff is what you have to look out for.

Agreed. I don't think it is major brand versus minor brand distinction, as much as a certified versus uncertified issue. BITOGers understand the difference, but the average consumer has no idea what to look for on a label and needs to be educated, which PQIA tries to do.

Many minor brands offer high quality products and great value.

And thanks for the accolades, which rightfully belong to PQIA's owner Tom Glenn.

There certainly are a lot of good gas station brands, even if one wishes to be really picky as to what counts as a gas station brand. I don't see any issues with Mobil, Esso, Formula Shell, Petro-Canada, or Chevron oils.
