This is my first post here and I have a quick question. I am Active duty military stationed in jacksonville florida where it reachs 100 some days during the summer and sometimes in the teens during winter. I just bought my wife a 08 kia sedona with 42k miles on the 3.8L( i believe to be a ford motor) I do not know the oil used by the previous owner but I was thinking about putting Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 in it. Is that recomended? and what should my OCI be?

As for your question, in that engine any dino based oil of a name brand will do fine in the climate you have. I would use anything Pennzoil makes in that engine!

The hot temps are not an issue. The vehicle is still under warranty and KIA wants everything to the letter.
I think the engine is NOT a Ford. Its Hyundai made.

5W20 will be fine year around. Engine is made by Hyundai. We have two Hyundai vehicles (our 3rd and 4th) have used nothing but 5W20 synthetic oil in them.
We being retired do a lot of short trips in and around town which is hard on oil and do some traveling so we are not into long drain intervals. We go by the extreme service recommendations in the owners manual.

Motorcraft SynBlend 5w-20 is readily available at Walmart for something like ~$12 for 5Qts.
I was told at hyundai it was a ford design, that made me happy because I am very fond of ford. I was looking through my owners manual and it says nothing about the oil quantity....
Pennzoil and all of the major players will do well for your Hyundai. At least while under warranty follow the interval suggested by Hyundai.
For example if it's 3000-5000 miles the reg yellow bottle will work perfectly. If you want to extend your service interval beyond that then a synthetic will do alittle better.
