First UOA ever!! W00t!

Lab is WearCheck Canada. I have the same oil sample being processed at Blackstone for comparison which I should have early next week. I'll post it in this thread when it comes in.

For a history, the car was purchased new. Changed out factory fill at approximately (give or take a couple hundred kms) 3000km, 6000km and 9000km with QS dino and new purolator filter each time. Switched to PP at 13000km, left that fill in for 3000km. Changed the oil to second oci of PP with oem toyo roki subaru oil filter, which ran from 16000 to 23518kms, which is the report below. Refilled with PP 5w30 and purolator filter and will resample at 32000km.

Only concern in this report is silicon. I did change out the air filter to a Fram for the last 2500km of this oci. I wonder if it's not sealing correctly? That being said, it doesn't look like it hurt the wear results any.

Driving conditions: Lots of short trips (less then 5km) for half the oci with temps below freezing. The other half the mileage was highway. Next OCI should have very little highway mileage, so it will be interesting to compare the results with the next UOA.

Suggestions, comments, feedback PLEASE!

Looks good. I would not worry about the Silicon since you did replace the airfilter. Perhaps the filter was not sealed 100%, or just the short time the filter was off while you were changing it let some particals into the intake. Either way not alarming.

Love that Calcium!!!!

Looks pretty good actually for your driving style. I've used PP a couple of times, but never got a UOA. I might start using it again exclusively...

I'm very pleased with this report. This car is still breaking in, according to the subie techs I've spoken to. In miles, this oci was 10k miles to ~ 15k miles.

I was concerned with fuel/wear with a rough idle I've been experiencing. I've decided to accept the rough idle as part of loving the quirky subaru boxer flat 4.

I have a stash of 10 jugs of PP 5w30 and 10 black toyo roki oem filters, which the car will be using exclusively for the next 80 - 100k kms (3-4 years). I'll be getting a UOA for the next 2-3 oci's to trend wear.

Forgot to add make up oil info. With a 4.4L jug of PP and filter change, the oil level is just over half on the dipstick marks. Oil dropped down to just under half. While I'm sure it would of been just fine to leave it, I decided to bring it back up to the previous level so I can keep track of oil consumed. Total make up oil was 200ml, or 1/5 of a quart. So oil consumption is down considerably from the first short run of PP. I'm hoping oil consumption declines to 0, but I doubt it with the way I drive; redlining it several times a week

The 200ml of oil burned was in the first 4000km of this oci. The last 3518kms burned no oil at all.

FYI: TBN is being done by Blackstone. So we'll know how the oil held up.

Assuming TBN is rock solid, and next UOA has similar wear numbers on the planned 8500 kms oci, I'll then extend to 10k kms and stick with that. 10k kms is about 60% further then recommended by Subaru's 6k kms oci requirement, so I won't be extending further... I think

I WISH!

na 08 Forester. If it was turbocharged I would be doing exactly 6000 km oci's to keep that pretty turbo clean.

+1 on going back to the oem filter. Looks good. Stay within the warranty mandated oci while under warranty.

I think the toyo roki oem filter is one of the best made filters I've seen. I used a purolator on the recent change since my box of oem filters hadn't arrived yet.

Regarding oci, I think 5k miles (8k kms) would be a good compromise. Subaru's recommended 3750 mile oci just seems ridiculous to me for a NA engine.

The warranty is worth much more than an extra oil change here and there to keep in warranty compliance. .02.

True true.. I'll aim for 6k and not cry if it goes over a little

I almost ordered a case from Fleetfilter. After I calculated the shipping, duty, and taxes they would of cost a little more. Had I not got in on the group buy with my local subie club for the toyo rokis, I would of gone for the Wix. I've had a good experience with every wix product used.

You can definitely go to the max OCI for severe in an n/a Forester running PP, IMO. In case you're not aware, the OEM filter has changed to one made by Honeywell (maker of Fram). I presume it's the same for Canada.

My Si is always in the teens regardless of the air filter.

Exactly why I got 10 of the black toyo roki's before they were phased out for the new model. They are pretty filters.

As promised the blackstone report. Pretty good consistency between the two labs. If you modify the blackstone comments to jive with 7518 KM, which is about 4700 miles, then it all makes more sense.

TBN of 6.2 is simply amazing and shows that this oil could of gone twice as long.

Nice flashpoint, so no worry about fuel. Very happy with this report.
