Still looking good. I think I pushed it as far as it could go without adding any make up oil. It was still ½ way up the dipstick.

You certainly pushed it as far as it could go, probably past due though as you dont know the TAN number. If its higher than the TBN (which it probably is) then most likely the oil was done a while ago. But your wear numbers are decent! Thanks for posting.

While his TBN is too low at 0.5, the TAN crossing the TBN number does not automatically mean the oil is "done". The fact that his wear metals are fairly low is a direct indicator of this. I would have capped it at 1-2 TBN, but I have had runs where my TAN was much higher than TBN and the UOA was still fine.

Thanks for testing and posting!

You pushed it to the limit but that's all. No signs of bearing corrossion so I don't see a problem. If the TAN was way too high I think you would see it in bearing metals. When I pushed my oil a little too far (low tbn/high tan) in my truck it showed much more copper and lead.

How long was the oil in the sump (time)?

Never mind I just saw your sample dates....looks like oil went in last fall. Thanks

Pay for TAN analysis next time. I don't think 10k is the best idea but it's not a huge problem yet. The iron went up by more than double, though nothing else looks horribly out of place.

Sure TBN is below the "magic threshold" of 1.0, but there is a only a slight uptick in iron. Even if TAN is high, the acidic state of the oil hasn't increased wear anymore than a longer run produces normally. 10K OCIs sound like a nice round number to deal with and the oil is doing just fine.

Does "still ½ way up the dipstick" mean it was half a quart low? If it's a long dipstick, that remark taken literally could mean anything. I always top off when I'm half a quart low unless I'm changing the oil the next day. Topping off would obviously make a few UOA #'s look better. 10K was probably enough.
