Okay weird question time. I have a 1971 Ariens Sno-throw with a 7HP Tecumseh Snow King on it. The governor let go in it last winter and I'm just getting around to fixing it now. Here's the kicker, I scored a new 6.5HP GX200 Honda that will bolt right on with no issue, I know the Honda has 9.7 Ft/Lbs of torque, how can I find out what the Tecumseh has? If the Honda is a stronger engine I know which is going back on the Snowblower.

Maritime:

The Snow-King has several design features for running in cold, snowy weather such as the heated carb box etc....

Just because the Honda runs better now doesn't mean it will when nasty Canuck winter hits

And January isn't the time to find out and start reinstalling the SnowKing, unless you have a temperature controlled workshop, of course.

Personally, I'd proceed with caution. You might be just fine, and maybe someone else has done the swap on a WINTER OPE (roto-tillers don't count

) that can give you some feedback.

Good luck, eh. Please post back with your results if you do the swap.

Craig.

the old h70 snow king is a good motor. its a big torque monster at real low rpm's because its a big displacment engine.
the honda gx is also a good motor, got good ammount of torque, but its torque is turned for a bit higher rpm's, probably around 3000-3600 rpm's where as the tecumseh make all its power down low around 1500-2500. the honda has overhead valves so its a more modern dsign that makes more power in a smaller size. its also more efficent.

if it were me, i would replace the tecumseh with the honda. sell the tecumseh on ebay! plenty of people sill buy it from ya. i think go carters like that block.

the honda probably has electronic ignition, something the techmseh does not. the tecumseh ignition points is behind the flywheel. so if you have an ignition problem you have to remove alot of parts just to get at the points.
with a winter jet kit, the honda will probably run better, be more efficent, and quieter.

Honda went on the blower, your right about the points, did that fun job last year, this will be the second time I've had to replace the govenor gear and it didn't impress me when it fried it the second time. Tore the back cover off it to confirm it, gear is there, weights are in the bottom of the motor

. I never thought about the heater box issue, this GX200 came off a pressure washer. I have to see how Honda sets them up on their snowblowers.
