I needed some lube for my oil burners today and saw 19 oz. of Poulan/Weed Eater brand oil for about 5 bucks at Walmart. It said 40:1 on the bottle, and includes a 3.2 oz reservoir to meter out that much for each gallon of gas.
My question is, what's in this stuff? Is it a re-labeled good major market oil? Probably somewhere in the middle?
Interestingly, the price for this bottle seemed to be comparable to the small 3 or 4 oz individual bottles of non-synthetic oil of the same brand label, per unit (those were about .89).
I was excited today, I went from one running string trimmer to three. My running string trimmer is a decade old Weed Eater GTI 15 that was a hand-me-down from my dad-in-law. While I was at the dump last weekend, someone was tossing out a Weed Eater GTI 17 and I picked that one up. I initially only wanted the string guard that my GTI 15 was missing. After doing some research, I found the GTI 17 had a larger engine (and a better Walbro carb, if there is such a thing), so I decided to try to get it running. I took the carb apart, found the high speed metering orifice all crusted up, and after cleaning, it runs like a champ. It also has a clutch drive, vs. the direct drive like my GTI 15. The other trimmer I got running is a truly ancient Ryan/IPC (or is it IDC?) trimmer. This engine is a hoss...sounds like it's straight off a chain saw. 31cc if I recall. It runs like a scalded cat. After adjusting the Tillotson carb, it runs mostly smoke-free. My goal with this one is to "restore" it to like new and use it full time. It also has a blade attachment/guard on it, and is clutch-driven as well. Neat old piece of equipment.
